Spider-Man: Prime

1x01 - The City and The Maggia

Written by Barry Turi

Spider-Man created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko
1 EXT. -- STREET LEVEL -- NEW YORK CITY -- DAY 1
Its a beautiful, sunny day in New York City. The city is
overwhelmed with life - the residents make their way to
and from work, new monuments and buildings are being
constructed, and despite the annoyance of honking car
horns, the traffic is building up.
But most importantly, a young savior patrols the city
ensuring the safety and well-being of the innocent...

...and hes climbing the walls of the monumental figure of
New York City, Manhattan specifically. This is Spider-Man,
and in this world hes in his 20s, with experience and
skills from years of practice.
Looking down onto street level at a very high scale. Its
your friendly neighborhood...

SPIDER-MAN
(remembering)
My assignment... damn...
(dismissive)
Still got tonight to do it... or
was it due before I ran out of
college class? Oh well... What
does the city have in store for
me today?

Hes quickly scuttling across the large scale of the

building, knocking on the windows attracting the attention
of young kids, who are on an expeditionary school trip.
CUT TO:

3 INT. -- EMPIRE STATE BUILDING -- CONTINUOUS 3

A small kid notices Spider-Mans knocking, and becomes
ecstatic and excited.
SMALL KID
(excited)
Hey, look! Its Spider-Man!
All the kids turn to the window, and see the masked hero
playing around with the kids through the window.

SMALL KID 2
Can we take a picture,
Spider-Man?

SPIDER-MAN
Sure! Feel free to take any
selfies, photographs, free of

CUT TO:
4 EXT. -- EMPIRE STATE BUILDING -- CONTINUOUS 4
Spidey is interrupted when the kids instantly take out
their phones and begin snapping photos, their flash on.

SPIDER-MAN
Times are a changing...
He continues to play around with the kids, keeping them
entertained and laughing. Peeking behind the window frame.
He then performs a mimic puppet show with his hands, while
sticking to the wall via his feet. He uses the left and
right sides of his mouth to imitate two people.

SPIDER-MAN

"I am Doctor Octopus, Spiderman!"
(right)
No! Spider-hyphen-man! Get it
right!
(left)
"Enough! I am the smartest
villain of all time! You will not
outsmart me!"

Assuming that Spider-Man may be slightly carried away, the
teacher, posh and tall, begins to round up the kids and to
continue on their trip.

TEACHER
(frantically)
Alright, I think its time we
moved on, children...
(looks at Spider-Man)
Thank you though, Spider-Man, for
such generosity.
KIDS
(together)
Bye Spider-Man!

Spidey waves back at the kids.

SPIDER-MAN
Stay in school, guys! And dont
forget to study hard... and
remember the hyphen!
3.

As he lowers his hand...

SPIDER-MAN
(muttering)
I was only going to say as big
as his ego... why did she tell
me to stop?
(realizing)
Oh...

He looks down in disappointment. That was a bad quip.

SPIDER-MAN
(muttering)
Bad joke, Peter...

CUT TO:
5 EXT. -- NEW YORK STREETS -- HOT DOG STALL -- CONTINUOUS 5
A suspicious-looking man approaches a hot dog stall and
the man behind it - an Indian male who is plump in figure
and short in size. The thief looks around to see if his
surroundings are clear as he moves in.
THIEF
Hey...

HOT DOG MAN

What can I get for you today?
Beneath his black coat, a revolver pistol slightly emerges
in his grasp, peeking out in the inside pocket.

THIEF
(angrily)
You can give me every damn dime
in your piggy bank.

The helpless hot dog man feels intimidated, and becomes

flustered as he sees the pistol in his jacket.
HOT DOG MAN
(frightened)
Okay... okay. But please, sir...
I have wife and kids.
THIEF
Just hurry up!
The hot dog man begins to take out all the cash from his
small box.
But before he hands it over, a high-pitched voice calls
out to the thief out of nowhere , and it sounds like its
from a distance.
4.

SPIDER-MAN (O.S)
Hey, you!
The thief looks around...
SPIDER-MAN (O.S)
Yeah, you, whos looking around.
Im talking to you! Leave the man
alone, before you end up in a...
A weird projectile hits the wall behind the thief. Its
glowing blue and flashing red, and a small bleeping sound
quickly speeds up to a ridiculously fast speed.
It releases webbing, grabbing the thief and pulling him
back towards the wall. No doubt he has a whiplash now...
His body is now covered in a webbing.

Spider-Man emerges onto the screen from above. He zips

down from a single thread while upside down.
SPIDER-MAN
Sticky situation!
(sarcastically)
I did warn you!
(proudly)
Oh yeah! By the way - new
technology, courtesy of myself
and Tony Stark - probably know of
him as Iron Man.

THIEF
Let me go!
SPIDER-MAN
Ah, yes - the point where the bad
guy begs for forgiveness...
THIEF
(shouting)
You think Im going to beg to
you? Do you know who I am?
SPIDER-MAN
Unemployed? Ugly? Blah, blah,
blah... Ive read one too many
comic books in my life...

Spider-Man shoots webbing over his mouth.

SPIDER-MAN
(chuckling)
So take a load of that to the
mouth!
(muttering)
Another innuendo? Must be the
hormones...
5.

HOT DOG MAN

You want a hot dog, Spider-Man?
As a way of saying thank you...

SPIDER-MAN
I would, but life doesnt give
you pockets...
(taps hips)
Nor money. Call the cops for him,
dude.

Spider-Mans spider sense begins to rattle in his head.

Out of nowhere however, Peter hears gunshots from above,
coming from a building across the block.
He leaps from the streets and then quickly shoots a web at
a nearby construction crane. A sign which reads Fisk
Towers is seen at the top of the building.
CUT TO:
6 EXT. -- FISK TOWERS CONSTRUCTION SITE -- CONTINUOUS 6

He zips upwards on the massive construction site, and then

sticks to one of the concrete pillars which surround the
34th floor. Spider-Man begins to look around.

SPIDER-MAN (V.O)
(looking around)
Doesnt look good here. Whos
pies did Fisk eat this time?
He notices a dead body.

SPIDER-MAN (V.O)
He mustve eaten a lot of em.
A gang of three thugs, all dressed smartly in black suits
and brown polo shirts emerge from a corner - they almost
imitate an Italian mob family. These men are Gimlet, Big
Rock and Blackwing. Spider-Man sees them, and quickly
crawls to cover.
SPIDER-MAN
(whispers)
Woah...
They are carrying two dead bodies. Mustve been the
reasons behind the gunshots he heard. They dump them with
the other body. They begin speaking - their voices are
gristly and brutal-sounding.

BIG ROCK
That everyone?
6.

BLACKWING
Just the top floor left. Then
well strip Fisks name off that
sign for bragging rights.

In the background, Spider-Man can be seen zipping from one

pillar to another, and then another. Silently.
GIMLET
Yeah! And after that, we can rise
up the ranks of the family...
(evil chuckle)
Ill be the next Top Man after
this!
BLACKWING
(chuckle)
Yeah right... tell that to the
syndicate and your toast...
A louder web zip emerges from the background. It echoes
throughout the 34th floor of the construction site, and
the three thugs hear it loud and clear this time.
SPIDER-MAN (O.S)
(whistles)
Yo! Who are you guys? Wait a
minute... let me guess... you
guys are part of that Maggia
fiasco, right?
BIG ROCK
That a kid?

The thugs look around, and raise their firearms in

defense. Another web zip is fired, but in the other
direction, prompting the thugs to turn around quickly.
SPIDER-MAN (O.S)
Which family are you again? The
Nefarias?
(guessing)
Got it! Youre the Hammerheads!
The boring suits give it away!

Spider-Man dangles down, lowering himself. Hes upside

down. He shoots two web strings, one from each wrist, and
firmly pulls Gimlet and Big Rock down to the ground.
SPIDER-MAN
No guns!
Blackwing turns around quickly, raising his gun. But
Spidey quickly upppercuts him and webs his gun to the
ceiling.
7.

SPIDER-MAN
Thats cheating!
(laughing)
No way!

Spidey realizes who the last standing thug is...

SPIDER-MAN
Blackwing?!
(chuckles)
You look like such a chump
without the costume!
Blackwing shouts in anger! He throws a hard right hand,
but Spidey moves his head and dodges it with ease. He
flips around from his upside down position back onto his
feet.
SPIDER-MAN
Youre not so quick without it
either!

Blackwing charges at Spider-Man, filled with rage.

BLACKWING
(shouting)
Stop talking!

He throws punches, but theyre all being avoided by

Spider-Man... thanks to his charm and athleticism of
course.
SPIDER-MAN
Sorry buddy.
(dodge)
Daredevil doesnt speak too
much...
(dodge)
But this is sort of my trademark.

Blackwing throws a punch, and Spider-Man webs his right

hand to the pillar, leaving his arm suspended. He throws
another punch, and his other hand is webbed up, this time
to the ceiling.

SPIDER-MAN
Apart from that one time where he
said you looked familiar. Said
something about a costumed bat
vigilante sorta dude he studied
in law school...

Spider-Man launches the new projectile webs to the pillar

on his right and the wall on the left. The webs attach to
Blackwings legs and suspends them just above ground
level. This leaves him in the splits position.
8.

Blackwing grunts. His face is enough to show us that

bearing an uncomfortable sensation.
BLACKWING
(grunting in discomfort)
You little -...
SPIDER-MAN
(interrupting)
Now, now. Lets keep this
family-friendly.
A hole rips in the crotch area of Blackwings pants.
Spidey turns around in horror of the forthcoming sight.
SPIDER-MAN
Aw, come on! Parental guidance!
A smartphone falls out of his pocket. Spidey of course
webs it and pulls it into his grasp.
He opens the camera app, and frames Blackwing perfectly in
the center of the screen.
SPIDER-MAN
Say Mozarella!

Spidey snaps a picture of Blackwing in his embarrassing

situation. He throws the phone up in the air towards the
webbing on the ceiling.
SPIDER-MAN
And the screen didnt crack...
Sweet!
(turn to Blackwing)
Alright, enough playing around.
Whos running the Hammerhead
family?

Out of nowhere, the spider sense triggers. Suddenly, a

weak wall explodes and crumbles into pieces. Concrete
shards fly everywhere and dust flows across the entire
floor.
HAMMERHEAD
(shouting)
Isnt that the million dollar
question?
This is Joseph, also known as Hammerhead - one of
Spider-Mans oldest foes. He is the second in command of
the Hammerhead family that is part of the Maggia.
He has a giant head laced with Adamantium, and stands at
67. He is dressed in a striped black suit and his hair is
slicked back like a mobster. Behind Hammerhead is a larger
group of
9.

Luckily, Spider-Man avoided the massive explosion of the

wall, and has retreated to a crane outside of the
building. He peeks from the crane. He sees Hammerhead and
his thugs approaching Blackwing.

HAMMERHEAD
(looking around)
Where did that little rodent go?!
(turn to Blackwing)
And where are Fisks men, you
useless piece of spare Maggia
garbage?
BLACKWING
Theyre on the top floor, sir!

Hammerhead remorselessly removes the webbing off Blackwing

and picks him up, holding him over his head like a
triumphant cage fighter.
HAMMERHEAD
And where is the Spider-Man?!

BLACKWING
(stutters)
I-I dont know...

Hammerhead instantly throws Blackwing off the building

over the edge.
As he descends down, screaming in fear, Spider-Man luckily
notices him, swings from the crane to the 33rd floor and
grabs Blackwing with a long string of web. He then swings
him out of sight.
SPIDER-MAN
Jeez... I always thought it was
me who said the wrong things...

He webs him to the ground and webs his mouth shut.

SPIDER-MAN
Sit tight, buddy.
We cut back to the upper floor. Hammerhead wants
Spider-Mans head on a plate.
HAMMERHEAD
(angrily)
Spider-Man! I will find you, and
squish you like the little insect
you are!
Spider-Man zips up to a beam directly above Hammerhead.
10.

HAMMERHEAD
Get your ass out here, so I can
get on with my business!
SPIDER-MAN
Im here!
Hammerhead and his thugs look up, to see Spider-Man
crouching on the beam.
This is Spider-Mans first encounter with Hammerhead, for
some contextualization.
SPIDER-MAN
You all should be wearing hard
helmets up here by the way. Most
people dont stand after one of
my punches... Wait... do I know
you from somewhere?
HAMMERHEAD
Why dont you come down here, and
say that to my face?
SPIDER-MAN
I would, but the glare of your
forehead is starting to blind me,
Mr...

HAMMERHEAD
Hammerhead!
SPIDER-MAN
Oh, like the shark...

Spider-Man performs a back-flip off the beam and shoots a

web at it, he swings. As he races towards Hammerhead, he
shoots small webs at the henchmens guns - all ten of
them.

SPIDER-MAN
I dig it, man!
Hammerhead unloads his Tommy Gun at Spider-Man, and he
dodges all the bullets in style. He curves and weaves
between the bullet patterns. He then eventually webs the
Tommy Gun and yanks it out of Hammerheads palms.
SPIDER-MAN
But I really dont like you...

He races towards Hammerhead, raising his fist, then...

CLANK! Spidey punches Hammerhead clean in the forehead,
but as we all know, Hammerheads skull is reinforced with
Adamantium - an indestructible compound.
Spider-Man retreats in pain as a result.
11.

SPIDER-MAN
(in pain)
Crap! You mightve broken my
hand!
(grasping hand)
No need for hard helmets! So you
really do have a hammer head,
huh?
Hammerhead stamps his feet into the ground and charges
towards Spider-Man. Hes pretty fast, and that massive
forehead looks intimidating... and shiny.
SPIDER-MAN
Not cool...

Out of improvisation, Spider-Man webs a suspended beam

hanging by a rope and pulls it backwards. It hits
Hammerhead in the face. He is startled and stumbles to a
knee.

Quickly, he webs him up, but because of Hammerheads

monstrous figure, he has to scurry around his entire body
to keep him in his place.
HAMMERHEAD
You cant keep me here!

Spidey silences him by webbing his mouth.

SPIDER-MAN
Shut up.

Spider-Man leaps over him, performing a front-flip, and

webs a sandbag. He throws it on top of the henchmen.
SPIDER-MAN
Catch this!

The sandbag explodes on impact, startling the henchmen.

Spidey finds two henchmen close together. He drops down,
bashes their heads together and deploys a flashing
projectile on one of their chests, sending them clashing
into each other.

Another henchman throws punches at Spider-Man, in which he

easily dodges by jumping onto his back and springing back
up, uppercutting the hostile in the chin. This sends him
flipping into the wall behind.

An additional henchman is behind Spider-Man. He picks up a

gun on the floor and cocks it.Spider sense triggers. The
henchman shoots, and Spidey narrowly escapes a stream of
flying bullet by moving his head in the nick of time. He
cartwheels sideways.
12.

SPIDER-MAN
Heads up!
Spidey quickly shoots a web bullet at an unsteady platform
containing cement bags. They come tumbling down, knocking
the man out.
Yet another henchman approaches, and he has a knife this
time. Spider-Man tries to web his arms down, but the thug
keeps cutting the webbing.

SPIDER-MAN
Hey, no weapons... except web
shooters!
Spider-Man jumps onto his shoulders, punching him a couple
of times in the head. He jumps up, shooting a web at his
chest, pulling him up. He notices another henchman
directly below, so he webs his feet to the ground. The
henchman in the air is kicked down on top of the trapped
thug, and the two collide with each other.

All the henchmen are defeated.

SPIDER-MAN
And the winner is...
(raises hands)
Your friendly neighbourhood -
Spi-...
His Spider-Sense tingles. He looks to his left. Hammerhead
breaks free of the webbing which kept him trapped... and
hes pissed now.

HAMMERHEAD
(enfuriated)
Bad mistake, bug!
SPIDER-MAN
(mutters)
Oh boy...
Hammerhead, filled with anger, charges at Spider-Man, head
first. As he runs, he picks up the Tommy Gun off the
ground. Spider-Man grabs two sandbags with his webs and
clashes them against Hammerheads skull, but it doesnt
phase him. He webs his eyes, but he just rips the webbing
right off.
Quick thinking... thats it!

Spider-Man creates a thin web line, which spans across the

width of the room, and jumps out of the way. Hammerhead is
oblivious to this - hes got a big head, but no brains.
13.

SPIDER-MAN
(laughing)
Hes a brute with no brains!

Hammerhead trips... and he stumbles... over the edge!

Spidey immediately stops laughing.
SPIDER-MAN
Aw, come on!

He dives down the construction site.

CUT TO:
7 EXT. -- FISK TOWERS INFRASTRUCTURE -- CONTINUOUS 7

Hammerhead turns around mid air and begins to spray the

Tommy Gun at Spider-Man.
HAMMERHEAD
(laughing)
Ha ha! Splat, little spider!
Incy, wincy spider-...
He elegantly dodges the stream of flying bullets which fly
past him. He shoots a web which grabs the gun. He pulls it
upwards and lets it fly in the air.

SPIDER-MAN
You guys love guns, huh?
Spider-Man shoots a web grabbing Hammerheads chest.

SPIDER-MAN
Hang in there, Hammerhead!
Another web string is fired from Spideys wrist, and
sticks to a beam. It begins to slow the two down... Spidey
is struggling to hold onto Hammerhead - hes pretty heavy.

CUT TO:
8 EXT. -- STREET LEVEL -- NEW YORK CITY -- CONTINUOUS 8
As they reach ground level. They begin to slow down, then
Spidey slowly sets Hammerhead onto the ground.
He then webs him down to the ground, with a tenser webbing
this time. He then knocks on Hammerheads forehead,
talking as he does so.

SPIDER-MAN
(knocking Hammerheads head)
So, Hammerhead. Do you ever get
headaches? Youre head seems a
kind of hollow, man...
(stands up)
14.

SPIDER-MAN
The cops should give you some
medicine.

Spider-Man shoots a web at a building and jumps up. He

begins to swing. Hammerhead is still webbed down to the
ground, powerless to get back up.

SPIDER-MAN (O.S)
Just hang tight, buddy!
However, the Tommy Gun which he threw up in the air begins
to fall back down... and fast.

Hammerhead gazes up at the gun as it soars towards his

head. He screams... and a CLANK is heard as the end of the
gun collides with his head, knocking him out.
CUT TO:

9 EXT. -- WINTER GARDEN DRIVE -- NIGHT 9

Peter is in his normal clothes, walking down the street.
By his side, his girlfriend Mary-Jane Watson.
PETER
You know, MJ... Im
really stressed out right now...
MARY-JANE
Is it because of me Pete? I know
Ive wanted us to go out for
forever now.
PETER
(reassuring)
What? No, its not that! I
promise!
MARY-JANE
Sure?
PETER
No... yes... Im s-sure! Its
just... everything. Aunt May
living on her own, college...
(looks at Mary-Jane)
If anything, its because of
me...

MARY-JANE
What do you mean, Pete? Youre
worrying me.
PETER
You know, the whole...
15.

Peter looks ahead of the street - someone is walking

towards him and Mary-Jane. He has to mind what he says.
He waits for the man to pass way behind them.

PETER
(imitating web shooters)
Pew! Pew!
(shrugs)
That sorta thing. I know weve
had this talk way too many times,
but are you sure youre okay with
me... leaving you alone all the
time?
MARY-JANE
Listen, Tiger...
Mary-Jane grabs Peters hand, as they continue to walk.
MARY-JANE
Most boyfriends would defend
their girl by... standing up for
them, and them only. Look at
everything that happened at
school, Pete - Boys had fights to
make their girlfriends feel
safe... reassured, then that
makes the girl feel bad - they
feel like theyre the reason for
something that happened... and
most of the time, it was nonsense
that happened at Midtown.
(looks at Peter)
I know youre not always there,
Pete, but you dont have to be.
You make me feel safe, not bad...
I know that whenever youre not
spending time with me, youre
doing something which makes your
girlfriend, and the entire
city feel confident, valued and
most importantly...
Mary Jane moves closer to Peters face.

MARY-JANE
Happy.
PETER
(smiles)
Thanks, MJ.
MARY-JANE
You feeling okay?
16.

PETER
What did I ever do to deserve
you?

MARY-JANE
Everything.
The two lean in for a kiss...
