Comprehension and Fluency will be taught in small, ability leveled groups using

Journeys leveled readers and/or short stories. Spend MINIMAL time, if any, on phonics, spelling, grammar, etc. FOCUS needs to be on reading strategies, NOT the other pieces.

Writing will be taught using Journeys and/or supplemental materials (Recommend Lucy Caulkins to replace Journeys for writing).

*

*

Content Providers include iReady (K-5) , IXL (test out of iReady), and/or NEWSELA

(high 2nd-12th grade) (better and cheaper than Acheive3000) This is where spelling, grammar,

phonics, etc will be addressed as well.

*

Reading A to Z for Book Bags to be sent home nightly (K-5). See levels. Have

volunteer print all copies over the summer and sort into bins that K-5 can all have access to as

students progress through the levels. Running records will need to be completed by classroom teacher about every 6 weeks to place students in appropriate level. Once a student tests out of Level Z, he/she does not need to bring books home nightly but should simply read for pleasure and choice.

*

Purchase more leveled readers for all classrooms with money saved from Acheive3000

and Accelerated Reader. IXL is not necessary either if more leveled readers are wanted in classrooms.

Cancel Journeys PD scheduled for this summer and use money to purchase more leveled books.

Would be helpful to increase number of devices in lower elementary to a minimum of 1:2, 1:1 being ideal so teachers can really maximize differentiation and flexibility. Maybe sell

*

iPads and get Chromebooks.

Literacy Time for Early Elementary best in morning. Schedule K-5 same literacy blocks if possible. Recommended 2 hours K-2 and 1.5 hours 3-5.

*

*

Common use and expected mastery of Dolch Sight Words for grades K-3.

Teachers will utilize Station Rotation (more for beginning blended learning adoption) or move into a Flexible Rotation (more for masters of blended learning).

All Units will be pre and post tested. Students scoring a pretest score of 80% or better

will opt out of the chapter and can 1) double up on iReady and/or IXL OR begin working with teacher on the next unit in Saxon. It would be ideal to start ALL students where they place next year (not call it 4th grade math, 3rd grade math, etc) and follow pre/post unit testing.

Saxon will be taught in small, ability leveled groups using the textbook.

Content Providers include iReady in all classrooms, unless a student tests out of 5th

Grade Math. Once out of 5th grade level math, iReady does not have to continue but still easily

could. Dreambox would be another provider to consider instead of iReady. IXL could be used but not necessary.
