Music Appreciation
Monday Mornings
with your tour guide
Matthew Taylor at
Blackheath Halls
Our autumn term is a vast venture which Matthew will undertake. It will explore music written during
the decade starting with the 1925 Paris Expo des Arts Décoratifs and include Les Six. It will take in
the leading figures of the day, Stravinsky, Bartok and Schoenberg and late Janacek. In England
there is Walton, Lambert and the Bright Young Things. We touch upon the last active years of
Sibelius and Nielsen, take a further look at Prokofiev and Shostakovich in the USSR, Hindemith,
Martinu and many others. Across the pond there will be the emergence of American music. So,
pack your bags and join us for a musical adventure in changing times, moods and fashions.
