㧞 Who is it?
㧝 I’m your next door neighbor.
㧞 Okay, just a sec.
㧞 Hey, you are not my next door neighbor. Who are

hear? Can you use your mouth? Hello?
㧝 Yu, you are a famous entertainer, aren’t you?
㧞 Yes, that’s right. What can I do for you?
㧝 Tha, that’s a great music. Could you turn the
volume up?
㧞 Is that it? Alright, I gotta go.
㧝 E, excuse me.

Today’s grammar point is the conjugation of Class I verbs to their potential form. To form the potential of
Class I verbs, the fnal hiragana syllable, one Iound in the u-column, is dropped and replaced with a hiraga-
na syllable from the corresponding row’s e-column and the hiragana syllable ru. In the case of romaji, just
replace the fnal u with eru. See the Iollowing chart
