4. SUMMARY

This Technical Support Note provides information for the issues which need to be taken in
consideration, when Flexi WCDMA BTS site equipped with Flexi WCDMA 2100MHz Dual
– and Single RF modules are modernized with Flexi Multiradio RF Module FRGT.

Flexi Multiradio RF Module FRGT is supported from Node B software WN7.0 2.3 and
WN8.0 1.0 onwards.

5. DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Flexi Multiradio RF Module FRGT HW supports WCDMA and LTE in dedicated or
concurrent mode. Flexi Multiradio RF Module provides 3 x 80W output power at the
antenna connector. Maximum capacity of one Flexi Multiradio RF Module for WCDMA
2100 MHz is up to 6 carriers and up to 2 x 20 MHZ LTE carrier.

Both Tx and RX chains support 60MHz instantaneous band.

1) BTS will be commissioned as 80W (e.g. 4x20W per pipe) and RFM internal power
control will limit the total power to 70W when needed

FRGT HW provides and supports following functionalities:
− Integrated class II OVP protection level in DC connector
− RET connector
− 6Gbit OBSAI link

5.1 Flexi 3U Casing + FMCA (Front and Back Cover) Re-use

Flexi Multiradio RF Module FRGT is delivered from the factory without a 3U casing, similar
to other Flexi Multiradio RF frequency variants (FXCB, FXDB). For new FRGT
installations, Flexi 3U casing EMHA 470316A need to be ordered separately.

Flexi Multiradio RF Module FRGT can be installed to 19” rack inside the cabinet without a
casing. In a stand-alone 19” rack installation front and back covers must be installed for
safety purposes. A casing is required to mount the rear cover. Therefore, an EMHA casing
kit is required for installation.

On modernization cases Flexi Multiradio RF Module FRGT can be installed to existing
Flexi 3U-casing versions.

Existing RF cable entries can be reused on FRGT installation.

Existing Front Cover need to be modified as described on the chapter 5.1.1.

5.1.1 Modification instructions – FMCA Front Cover to FMCA A.207

Existing front cover can be modified to FMCA A.207 version by removing the air deflector
plate.

Air deflector plate is ultrasonic welded to front cover. There are six welding points on the
front cover.

Figure 1: FMCA A.206 front cover welding points

Air deflector plate removal can be done with a regular file or similar kind of blunt end tool,
which end size is approximately 5mm x 20mm.

Do not use the screw driver, because the end size is too narrow and it can leave sharp
corners to the front cover.

Figure 2: Regular file with end size 5mm x 20mm

Place the file end close to the air deflector ultrasonic welding point. Loosen the ultrasonic
welding point with a sharp hit to the file handle. Each ultrasonic welding point need to be
loosened separately.

Figure 3: Each ultrasonic welding point need to be loosened separately

After removing the air deflector plate, ensure that there are no sharp corners, which could
damage the cables, on the front cover.

Flexi 3U Mounting Covers Front/Back FMCA version 470239A.207 and EDGE Mechanical
3U Unit EMHA version 470316A.208 include the Front Cover without an air-deflector
plate. Technical Support Note TS-3GBTS-HW-177 provides further information for the
FMCA – and EMHA versions.

5.2 Optical Cables and Optical Transport (SFP) Modules

FRGT site accessory bag does not contain optical modules (SFP) or 2m optical cable.

Existing optical cables and Optical Transport (SFP) modules can be reused on FRGT
installation for 3GB OBSAI link.

5.3 DC Cabling

FRGT site accessory bag does not contain DC supply cable.

Flexi Multiradio RF Module FRGT requires on a stack configuration minimum of AWG 10
size DC Supply Cable.

AWG12 size DC supply cable assembly 994808A was delivered with Flexi WCDMA Dual
– and Single RF Modules. Because AWG12 size DC supply cable cannot be used with
FRGT, NSN DC cable portfolio provides following options which can be used for FRGT
DC voltage supply on stack configurations:
− FPCC 472823A.202 (AWG10 – 2meters)
o DC Cable assembly, other end with multi-beam connector, other end
open
− DC cable assembly 995281B (AWG10 – 2 meters)
o Both ends with multi-beam connector, requires multi-beam connector cut-
off from the other end.

For DC cable lengths longer than 2m, please see the documentation on WCDMA RAN,

5.4 WCDMA BTS SW Support

Flexi Multiradio RF Module FRGT can be used with Flexi BTS System Module variants
FSIA, FSMC, FSMD, FSME and FSMF. WCDMA BTS software support for Flexi BTS
System Modules is described on table 1.

5.6 Licensing

Flexi Multiradio RF Module FRGT supports maximum of 60W output power in WCDMA
mode in WN7.0 2.3. Existing Power Licences can be used with Flexi Multiradio RF Module
FRGT in WN7.0 2.3:
− 40W Power LK (RAN1002)
− 60W Power LK (RAN1725)

FRGT with 80W output power is supported from WN8.0 1.0 onwards, for the 80W output
power 20W incremental Power Licence LK (RAN2225) can be used:
− Example: RAN1725 (60W) + RAN2225 (20W) = 80W

Other licenses which are available for Flexi Multiradio RF Module FRGT
− Multi Carrier LK (RAN1001):
nd rd th
o Adds one additional carrier (2 , 3 or 4 )

Note! Branch Activation LK (RAN1440) is not needed for FRGT.

Start:
Node B 1+1+1 20W with 2x FRGC
Node B SW WN7.0 2.2 (WN7.0_1207_753_07)

1) Block the cells
2) Shut down the BTS
3) Disconnect the optical cables and optical modules
from RFM1 and RFM2
4) Disconnect the DC cables from RFM1 and RFM2
5) Disconnect the antenna feeders from RFM1 and
RFM2
6) Disconnect the grounding cables from RFM1 and
RFM2
7) Loose the fastening screws and remove the RF
modules from their casings

8) Install FRGT to free 3U casing
9) Connect DC supply cable
− FRGT requires AWG10 size DC supply
cable as a minimum
− Remember to slide the DC Terminal Seal to
cable in advance
10) Connect grounding cable
11) Install existing optical module (SFP) and connect
optical cables
− Please note, that FRGT optical port angle is
180° different to Flexi Rel 1 and Rel 2 RF
Modules
12) Connect the antenna feeders

13) Fasten the seals for the DC – and optical connection

Note! Optical Cable routing
− Optical module (SFP) angle is 180° different to
Flexi Rel1 and Rel2 RFM Modules
− Pre-bent optical cable turns to right, and optical
cable needs routing outside the front cover
− Pending radius for D7mm optical cable
is 70mm
− Pending radius for D5mm optical cable
is 50mm

14) Switch on the Node B. FRGT comes visible to BTS
Manager View
− WN7.0 2.2 does not support FRGT,
therefore additional Site Reset is needed
15) Update Node B SW to software level, which
supports FRGT (e.g. WN7.0 2.3)
16) Cell commissioned to RFM2 need to be
