Wind Farm
LVRT Simulation
1 Description
The dynamic simulation of the low-voltage-ride-through (LVRT) behaviour of wind turbines is
important to check and proof their dynamic voltage support in case of a short-circuit in the
distribution grid (outside of the wind farm grid) and to examine the behaviour of the
complete wind farm. Typically wind turbines have to inject additional reactive current
according to the voltage deviation multiplied by a k factor (grid code requirement). Usually a
dead band exists around the steady-state voltage value. The possible maximum of reactive
current injection is limited by the converter ratings. To inject additional reactive current,
usually active current is reduced during LVRT.
To execute a dynamic RMS simulation, select the RMS/EMT simulation toolbar.
Press the Calculate Initial Conditions button to initialize the simulation with steady-
state values. Afterwards run the simulation by pressing the Start Simulation button.
Results will be available on the Plot... tabs.
