General Blocking Rules/Terms

Holes

~ Wedge Blocking - Center fires out and engages the NT. The guards out to the tight ends step inside and get their inside shoulder into the near rib cage and the outside hand on the on the near shoulder pad and inside hand presses on the lower back.

I- GOD Blocking - "G" stands for inside Gap. "0" stands for On which is anyone aligned in front of you.

"0" stands for Double Down on the lineman 'on' the first offensive lineman to your inside. This applies to playside blocking.

2009 Shady Grove Red Passing Route Tree

1. Arrow Route - from the line of scrimmage or backfield position. Look for ball

over your outside shoulder

2. Hitch - at 10 yards. Ball should be thrown right upon receiver's hitch move.

3. Dig - at 10 yards

4. Post - 10 yards and slant toward the goal post

5. Fly - go straight down the field and look for the ball after 10 yards

6. Corner - 10 yards and slant toward the corner of the end zone. Look for ball over your outside shoulder.

7. Out - go 5 yards and sharply break to the sideline. Look for ball over your outside shoulder.

8. Flare - from the line of scrimmage or backfield position. Look for ball over your outside shoulder

Routes will always be numbered from right to left.

Base 6-5

• Initial Linemen Techniques 2,5,8. MLB will make Formation Strenghth call Roger (right) or Louie (left). Defensive linemen will slide to call side and be responsible for the gap to call side 7,8,9 techniques always check reverse on runs away

MLB always has the free A Gap; first then flow to the ball

SLB & WLB have (B, C) Gap help first; flow to 0 Gap on wide runs

Corners force run on sweep to them. After playing pass first. Always stay home for reverse until ball passes the line of scrimmage

4-5-2 Defense

~ MLB makes formation strength call Roger (right) or Louie (left)

I- Down linemen will have the call side gap. MLB has A Gap to strength call and B Gap on runs to weak side. SLB has C Gap on runs to strength side scrape on runs away

I- Corners line up 2 yards inside nearest receiver play pass first Support run playside and force inside. Look for reverse on plays away.

~ Safety check TE for pass first Run support on plays to your side. Runs away prepare proper angles to ball carrier.

~ WLB has B Gap on runs at him; scrape to 0 Gap on sweep actions his way. Flow to ball on wide runsaway.

Goal Li ne Defense 6-5 Pinch

• Defensive line - both sides 1,4,6 techniques slant hard to the inside gap closest to you.

• Linebackers - 2 yards off the ball. MLB watch OB sneak then flow to the ball

• SLBIWLB - 2 yards off the ball and flow to the ball

~ Corners - Force run your way. Check for quick release pass.
