0 METHODOLOGY & EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES

Start-up procedure

1. The valves HV231, HV234, HV235, HV236, HV241, HV243, HV244, HV245, HV241
were opened and the valves HV232, HV233, HV240, HV242, HV248, HV249, HV246,
HV250, HV251, HV252, HV253, HV237, HV238 and HV 239 were closed.
2. The Cold Water Tank T-201 and Hot Water Tank T-203 were filled in with water.
3. The instrument air regulator RG1 was set to 2.8 bar.
4. The main panel was switched on.
5. The hot water temperature T-203 was allowed to reach approximately 45C
6. The pump P211 was switched on and FI201 was adjusted to 10LPM by using HV240.
7. The pump P213 was switched on.

PID Heat exchanger control

1. The following values were entered: PB = 100, I = 60s and D = 6s.

2. The control loop was set into manual mode and then the set point was adjusted to 45C.
3. The recorder was turned on and the control loop was adjusted to auto mode.
4. The set point temperature was adjusted to 35C for 5 minutes and subsequently adjusted
back to its initial set point value, which is 45C.
5. Once the measurement has stabilized, the recorder was turned off. The control loop was
adjusted back into manual mode.
6. Step 2 till Step 5 were repeated with the following values: PB = 100, I = 60s and D =
60s.
7. The results were compared and discussed.

Proportional and Integral Heat Exchanger Control

1. The following values were entered: PB = 100, I = 300s and D = 0s.

6. Step 2 till Step 5 were repeated with the following values: PB = 100, I = 30s and D =
60s.
7. The results were compared and discussed.

Proportional only Heat Exchanger Control

1. The following values were entered: PB = 100, I = 9999s and D = 0s.

6. The result was discussed.
