Art at Social Services
The City of Peterborough Social Services Division is located at 178 Charlotte Street. We
provide financial, employment and childcare supports to low income families in the City and
County. Recently renovated, Social Services would like to invite local artists to participate in
our “Art at Social Services” Project.

Submission Guidelines
This is an open call for emerging Artists (someone who is within the first 5 years of their
career) who resides in the City and or County of Peterborough to produce two-dimensional
work in any medium, including painting, drawing, photography, and mixed media. We are
seeking art that promotes our visions and values as noted below. This is an opportunity for
local artists to showcase their art to the public.

We believe this Art Project will show our Division’s commitment to providing a service
promoting a sense of belonging for members of our community as well as building
engagement and continuing to strengthen relationships here at Social Services and within our
Currently we have four available spaces at Social Services to hang art.
A maximum of two original artworks may be submitted by each artist. Works submitted must
address the theme of our Vision and Values. All works must be ready for hanging, not be
excessively heavy, and must be no larger than 1.52 Meters (5 ft.) by 1.22 Meters (4 ft.) Any
technical needs for works must be provided by the artist.

 1st Floor no larger than 1.52 Meters (5 ft.) X 1.52 Meters (5 ft.)
 2nd Floor no larger than .91 Meters (3 ft.) tall X .61 Meters (2 ft.) wide (seeking 2 pieces)
 3rd Floor no larger than .91 Meters (3 ft.) tall X 1.22 Meters (4 ft.) wide
 4th Floor no larger than .91 Meters (3 ft.) tall X .91 Meters (3 ft. ) wide

Submission Guidelines
The City of Peterborough Social Services cannot accept mailed submissions. All submissions

your interest we will reply with a link to submit electronic copies of your work.
You will be asked to include the following:
1. Proposal/Project Description (1 page max)
2. Size and weight or work
3. Hanging Requirements
4. Artist Bio (250 words max) in .pdf format
5. Visual Support Material (3 images maximum)

Applicants who do not adhere to these criteria will be disregarded.
Visual support material should include images of previous work. Artists are not required to
send mock-ups of their proposed project, but should clearly illustrate their intentions in the
Project Description.
Please select visual support material mindfully, as committee members have limited time to
consider each proposal. Images should be labeled numerically with the artist’s name
(01_name.jpg, 02_name.jpg, etc.). Your Support Material List should include title of work, date
created, medium, and dimensions. Please do not include these attachments in your initial
email. You will be provided with a secure link to send this to after your initial contact.
If you wish to include video documentation, it should be uploaded to a site such as Youtube or
Vimeo and linked in the application. Regardless of duration, please include full videos. Due to
time constraints, the selections committee may only view up to 5 minutes of each video.
Please note the clip you would prefer the jury view by including time marks in the
documentation list.

Public Art Initiative

A Selection Committee composed of one Social Services Staff, two working artists or curators
from the City or County, and one member of the Peterborough community at large who will vet
all submissions for the Art at Social Services Project.
All applicants will be notified of the Selection Committee’s decision by the end of November
An artist fee will be provided to each artist whose artwork has been chosen. The amount of the
artist fee will be based on the size of the art and the medium used (between $200.00 and
$500.00 per piece).
