Culture Credits 5/8/2017

For my culture credits, I made two dishes to bring to a class dinner event. The first was flan. I’ve

had flan since I was a child, and it is a staple of my Mexican family’s desserts. I needed eight eggs,

evaporated milk, condensed milk, and a whole lot of sugar to make it. I cooked it in the oven over a pot

of hot water for about an hour and a half, and it was done. The second dish was easier – “Los Frijoles.” I

just made beans, added some cream cheese and Mexican three cheese and I was done.

I particularly enjoyed and found this to be valuable because it reminded me of the importance

of cooking and sharing meals. In Mexico, the whole family would work together to cook, and sit down

and invite friends over to eat as a group. Essentially, it was a social event. Similarly, the event at Señora’s

house was the same type of social gathering and it strongly reminded me of what we would do in

Mexico. in college. . Hopefully. I’ll be able to cook and share food with people that I am close to on my own.
