Data Analysis Procedure

The data in this article were analysed using Pearson correlation test using the SPSS
program with a statistical significance set at p <.01. Correlations among
questionnaire items were checked and the statistics were appropriate in answering
the questions in evaluating the program. The data were presented in only one table
discussing about the students opinion on the TEFL program. The other data were
presented without the help of tables or figures but it was described clearly to help
readers understand the evaluation of the program made by the samples chosen.

Findings

The findings of the program evaluation were discussed and described clearly
according to each data collection instruments. All feedbacks from the instruments
were valuable in a sense that it helps the researcher to conduct a thorough
evaluation on the program itself. Not only all the data are found to be valuable but it
also helps to evaluate the program from multiple perspectives making the results to
be substantially important in doing a program evaluation. The findings include that
the content of the program does not reflect the program philosophy where student
find an imbalance among three areas namely subject matter competence, skills and
awareness.
The question on whether the program managed to meet and is relevant to the
students need is mentioned to be fairly broad from the findings. This is due to the
32% of the student who felt that the program was relevant to them and another 52%
were not sure whether it was relevant. This leads to a speculation that student might
not know what they need when they finished the program and started teaching,
leaving them unsure whether the program content can fit with their needs in the
future. From the teachers perspective, they believed that the program managed to
promote teachers reflection and self-evaluation. The correlations found between
questionnaire items also supports whether the program is relevant to their needs.
From the interviews, it has come to a conclusion that the program is stronger in
promoting teaching skills than the knowledge of language content on second
language acquisition. Another finding on the programme from the teachers is that the
program incorporates an appropriate balance among English proficiency, nature of
language and teaching methods. But every program will normally have its strengths
and weaknesses, thus having lack of management skills, not enough testing or
educational technology and teaching method course to be too theoretical as a few of
its weaknesses.
The findings from these various data instruments were of great help in evaluating the
program and identifying the pros and cons as well as the suggestion on how to
improve in future program. Judgements on the value of the program and how far the
objectives were achieved were able to be made with the help from the findings
therefore evaluating the whole program thoroughly.

Ethics and human subjects review.

The program evaluation seemed to be consistent with the ethical standard and did
not pose any threats to research participants as they were kept anonymous when
they were asked to become the samples. It was mentioned from the article that
students did not write their names on the questionnaires. However there was no
record made whether the individuals were voluntarily when participating the program
evaluation. Other than that, it was found that the human subjects involved in the
program evaluation did not breach the ethical standards in a sense that they were
not asked to participate a program evaluation on things that they do not know or
aware of. This program evaluation also respects the rights of individuals to privacy
and confidentiality. I would consider this to be a good program evaluation as the data
collected was very thorough and convincing as it looks at multiple perspectives and
is not biased from another point of view. This research took several years and six
data collection methods which showed that there was enough triangulation to be
done in order for evaluation to be made and understand whether the program was
successful in achieving its main objectives.
