BOX 607 ,190 SHADY GROVE ROAD AITHERSBURG, MD. 20760 a | 2 | CONSTANT SUPPORT DESCRIPTION CONSTANT SUPPORTS Coil Spring Design (Paterted) CONSTANT SUPPORTS ‘The Constont Support ictive and Enclosed Unit, advanced in design and operation and verso mechanical device which yields o constant supporting force at all positions throughout its travel range. It is non-resonant. on Accurate, Balanced, Compact, The Constant Support is based on a simple mechanical In order to produce a Constant Supporting Effect the load ‘moment about the Main Pivot must be counterbalanced by ‘en equal spring moment throughout the travel range. Referring to the diagram, take three positions of the load trovel - Top, Mid, Bottom — and equate the moments of these points about the Main Pivot. DESIGN: By proper selection of the spring ond location ‘of the working points, this Design resolves the corrés- Ponding varying spring force, spring arm, ond load orm to produce « CONSTANT SUPPORTING EFFECT through- ‘out the travel ronge. IMPROVEMENTS: The conventional Constant Suppoit Coil Spring Units shown in this Catalog have been further improved, simplified ond made more compact and more efficient. The Units have been dimensioned to be readily fitted into the available space, saving time in the Engi Room as well ds in locating them in the |d. New Top Connections have been designed for simple ond quick installation by first welding or bolting the connecting part to the supporting steel and then bolting the Unit to it. The load range of Units has been increased ‘0 87,500 and travel increased to 16". OSS, GL ee ies Oo a Ct eet Cc { CONSTANT SUPPORT DESCRIPTION | 3 CONSTRUCTION: In this Design, the spring oxis ond housing remain stationary: With © housing of substantial construction, Bergen hos developed Units thet can be installed in many arrangements without the danger of damage or impairment of their functions, even if by accident or otherwise they come in contact with adjoining equip- ment. The housing, while it fully protects the spring mechanism from dust and other debris, has an opening which is provided for any eventual inspection of the spring end other ports. Integral travel stops protect the Unit in the event of overloading. Friction is minimized by suitable bearings ot all main rotating points. The load block permits o lood rod movement of at least 4° from vertical. The field load adjustment is located ot o protected ond yet readily coccessible location FIELD ADJUSTMENT: The Units ore shipped pre-set to COLD position ot the specified load. All Units are pro- vided with © stondard 6" gop turnbuckle. The hanger rod toke-out is given neor the center of the turnbuckle thus providing for normal piping elevation adjustment. Any odditional adjustment that may be required for the pipe cold ‘springing operation should be provided os port of the hanger ossembly. When necessary fo change the supporting force, field edjusiment of up to 15% to 20% of the specified lecd can be mode by turning @ single bolt. Constoncy is retained throughout its entire range of field adjustment. SAFETY FACTOR: All ports (except springs) hove been designed with @ minimum foctor of safety of 5 accordance with American Code fer Pressure Piping. APPLICATION: The Constant Support Hangers are principally employed to suppert piping ond equipment subject to vertical movement. Their use prevents the introduction of additional stress in the piping systems. Particular consid eration should be given to the use of Constant Supports when pipe temperatures reach 750° and on all other critical lines. SELECTION OF UNITS: The vertical Units originated ond developed by Bergen are indicated for use in restricted loteral oreas and/or for aesthetic preference. These Units have been further improved by adding a new design with the loed block ot the top, yielding U compact and efficient for most travels, and making them best suitable where the availability of space is limited in both vertical and horizontal directions. Horizontal units hoving equal flexibility should be used wherever ovailable space conditions permit. Constant supports should be selected with sufficient overtrovel to insure an adequate travel reserve thus providing for ony possible discrepancy between the calculated and the actual piping movement. However, since the Units ore sold on on inch pound basis (travel x lead), fon excessive overtravel will result in an uneconomical selection. Our experience indicetes thot en over-travel of 20% with a minimum of 1/2" above the calculated travel is considered odequate. FEATURES: All the stondard features of this Design such as: factory testing and celibration, pre-set to COLD position, HOT and COLD position buttons, trovel indicators ond travel stops, field adjustment, permanent lubrico tion, etc., have been retained and, where possible, improved. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTION: The Unit is factory tested and pre-set to COLD position. This permits it to be used 08 a rigid honger for hydrostatic test or any other purpose. Attach Unit to supporting structure and moke up connections. When the piping is in its FINAL operating COLD position, o minor adjustment of the lood rod will release the pre-set piece which con only THEN be extracted by hand. Store pre-set piece by securing to Unit with provided brass screw. The travel indicater should now be in line with the COLD button (C). At the operating HOT position, the travel indicator should line up with the HOT button (H). Adjust rods if necessary. If it should be determined that the actual piping load differs from the calculated load, upon direction of the design agent, an adjust- rent of minimum of 15 to 20% of the specified load can be made by turning the load-adjustment bolt. Caution: If the Unit is to be removed or the load disconnected, bring the Unit to the eriginal COLD position and re-insert the pre-set piece before detaching the load rod. Each Unit is pre-set in the shop to the “cold load” and o stop provided (the pre-set pin) to maintain this condition during erection. Under ne circumstances should ony of the factory settings, all of which are welded in place, be tampered with. Adequate provision has been made for any field settings and adjustments required, as described herein NOMENCLATURE ..__ Side ond end views of typical Horizontel and Vertical Constont Supports, shown below, locate and name the vatious parts that will be referred to in the following set of instructions INSTALLATION AND SETTING 1. Festen top connection to supporting structure then attach and suspend unit 2. Attach load rod to the lower turnbuckle and adjust so thot oll slack is taken vp. Core must, be exercised in instollation of rod suspended units until stability is esteblished by applice- tion of supported lood. HYDROSTATIC TEST ‘The unit is now completely instolled and functions as « rigid hanger with the pre-set pin in place. This pin orrests the downward or upword movement of the rotating arms. It should be noted that the spring provides @ con: Stont lifting effort equal to the rated load of the unit; any additional loed imposed by hydrostatic test ebove ond beyond this rated lood is absorbed by the pin IMPORTANT ~ The pre-set pin is to be removed after the piping hos been insuleted and is ready for operation OPERATION AND TRAVEL CHECK : ‘ter hydrostatic test ond after line has been insulated unit can be set for operation. By visual inspec- tion observe whether the pre-set pin is in contact with upper or lower port of the motching holes then turn lower rod turnbuckle es required to free pin for easy hand removal. Pre-set pin mey be stored for future use by attaching to the side of the unit with the provided brass screw. This feature hes been incorporated for the instance when the pin will be required to re-convert the unit to 9 rigid hanger. This may oceur at @ future time when the plont is shut down nd certain elements of the system are undergoing repairs or removal due to maintenance reasons. Lock jam nut of lood rod in ploce. Unit is ready for operation. Field is to check all units efter pre-set pins have been removed to determine whether the indicators ore on the ‘'cold” position button. Adjustment should be mode to the rods so that this position is maintained before plant start-up. If the constant support 1s selected os recommended, the totel travel of the unit-will be approximately J inch or more greater than the actual calculated travel of the supported pipe. This will insure on adequate travel reserve ot both top and bottom positions of the hanger to allow for any normal discrepancy between calculated end cctual travel of the supported piping or equipment. As long as the travel indicator does not come up against either the upper or lower travel stop, the unit is supporting the load ond operating properly. It is very importont thet the position of the travel indicotor be checked periodically to make sure that it is not up against one of the stops. Any fedical difference between the actual travel of the piping or equipment and that indicated on the constant support should be brought to the eftention of the hanger design agent. LOAD ADJUSTMENT “The factory ships cll hangers adjusted to support the customer's coleulated load; if it should be deter- mined thet the actuel piping load differs from the calculated loed an adjustment of up to plus or minus 15 to. 20% is readily made by turning the field load adjustment bolt. The percentage or change made is clearly indicated on the field load adjustment gage. Read scale using top edge of block as indicator. After considerable research, Bergen has produced a compact, efficient and practically frictionless device. There ore five Standard sizes for loads ranging from 5,000 to 50,000 pounds, and travel of 12 inches. Travels of 6" ond 18" ore available upon request. The two, smaller sizes, 5,000 and 10,000 pound units, feature hardened roller bearings for both load and guide rollers. The three larger sizes 15,000, 30,000, {End 50,000 pound units use hardened roller bearings for guiding and the exclusive bar on roller design for supporting the lod thus eliminating axle loading and friction. ‘The single track roller is instelled parallel to the principal movement or may be placed on o vector (ce sultant of two movements) when piping has an appreciable loteral mavement also. For application where piping must have completely free movement, one end of the roller is placed on a second track (circular) allowing the vector an Gudiional amount of freedom in ether lateral direction. EFFICIENCY — New foctory pre-set design locks the unit at the cold load position ‘ond automatically transforms the hanger into e rigid support for hydrostatic test or other purposes, thus saving field labor and assuring proper looding. Another odded feature of this new design (particular desirable for heavy loads), the load bolt bears on @ contoured, raised surface which prevents its head from digging into the bearing surface of the piston plate, thus affording easy load rod engagement ond odjustment. To further facilitate load rod turning, the bearing surface of large units is factory lubricated. SAFE, FOOLPROOF INSTALLATION ~ Both Visible ond Mechonicel evidence, in the design, enables the installer to determine the spring lood condition prior to the re- moval of the pre-set piece (plain rivet). As illustroted in the sequence of photographs on the cover of this catalogue, o slight downward inclination of the pre-set piece indicates fn underloaded condition end an upword inclination denotes overloading, while the pre-set piece in the horizontal position indicates proper loading ond permits its removal by hand. NOTE: In the design while the pre-set piece is firmly held in place by engaging ports ~ their construction produces sufficient inclination in the pre-set piece to clearly indicate whether the unit is underloaded or overloaded, so after installation, @ slight turn of the locd rod turnbuckle brings the pre-set piece to level position, indicating the proper leading (specified locd), and the pre-set piece can then be easily removed by hend. Thus, in re- moving the pre-set part, the simple design overcomes the possibility of o forceful ejection of the pre-set parts or @ sudden movement of the spring up or down that might couse injury to persons or equipment. NEW IMPROVEMENTS © The new design provides all spr 19 units with @ turnbuckle or other suitable coupling with the rod take-out given near the center thus providing for normal piping elevation ad- iustment. 1 yin erdr fo meet present and future demands, BERGEN-PATERSON found it desirable to enlorge the units’ lood range. Therefore, in this issve, the lood range has been extended downward to 15 and upward to 38,676. © The Voriable Supports, menufactured from suitable materials or furnished with ne essary protective coatings, are evailable to meet the abnormal requirements encounteres exyogenic, high ambient temperature or corrosive atmospheric installations. © As noted before, housing opening permits visual inspection of oll parts ot all times. ‘© Cold ond hot loed buttons or morkings ore established on lood-travel scale. ngs ore designed in accordance with MSS SP 58 and ports as well as workmanship comply with American Standard Code for Pressure Piping, ASA B31.1. NEW FEATURE - SPRING SIZE SELECTION - BERGEN-PATERSON hos evolved and presents to industry « direct reading SIZE SELECTION TABLE that enables the de- signer to select the proper spring size. Use of the table not only assures the proper and most economical size selection for all load-travel conditions, but also eliminates errors ‘ond soves voluable engineering time. The proper size from this Table is obtained recdily by simply knowing the allowable percent variation in supporting force, the amount and direction of travel and the operating (hot) load. : ‘An odded helpful feature to the designer is @ new conventional LOAD DEFLECTION CHART with o shoded area focusing ettention on the most economical load range. This range covers all the Stendord VS Units. The chart has also been extended to cover unusual ‘er special conditions requiring @ grecter portion of the spring trovel than standard. 20 | VARIABLE SUPPORTS VARIABLE SUPPORTS The Variable Support is @ spring loaded device used for the support of piping and equipment generally. subject to moderate vertical expansion. As the name implies, the supporting force varies with the piping movement. FUNCTION The proper support of « piping system which changes its vertical dimension and position because of thermal difference is 0 critical matter. Rigid supports cannot sotisfy this condition. The variable support permits this thermal “growth” but still carries oll or most of the load dependent upon the degree of compression of the spring. WHEN TO USE IT ‘The designer must first determine the support loca- tion and the loods and travels at those locations. The two most important criteria then to consider ore: 1, The overall noture of the piping system, ine. configuration, pipe material and pipe contents. Ordin crily, variable supports ere employed on less critical lines copable of absorbing some additional stress, or ‘where equipment connections can safely withstand on edditional reaction 2. The amount of vertical expansion. This dictat the degree of spring compression which in turn con- trols the actual supporting force. HOW TO USE IT Variable supports cre manufactured in eight differ- tent standard arrangements ond three different travel series. This variety permits great flexibility of install- ction ond overall honger design. Reference to the cat- og drawings will indicote these bosic arrangements. HOW TO SELECT A VARIABLE SUPPORT Step #1. Determine the arrangement best suited for the conditions. (Type A, B, C, D, E, F, G and GB). Step #2. Refer to the SIZE SELECTION TABLE, The designer must now determine the allowable amount ‘of support variation. The VS4 travel series will introduce @ load variation of one-half that introduced by the VS2 series. The VS2 series yields one-half the variation of the VSI series. In other words, the longer the spring, the less variable the supporting force. As @ guide in determining the correct travel series, note that an actual pipe movement not greater than 1/2" for VSI, 1 for VS2, and 2" for VS4, will result in a load variation of approximately 20% or on @ comparative measure of 1/2' travel the load variation of VSI, VS2, cand VS4 is 20%, 10% ond 5% respectively. Step #3. Continue to refer to the SIZE SELECTION TABLE ond select the travel series and size which will sotisty the pre-determined conditions of allowable Percent variction in supporting force, magnitude ond direction of travel, and the operating (hot) load. This SELECTION TABLE assures that the spring is alwoys. in the operating range during the entire piping travel tend thet the most economical choice has been made. For travel conditions and percent variability which ‘exceed those indicated in the TABLE, reference must be made to the LOAD-DEFLECTION CHART. Find the load 10 be supported in the lower half of the working range ond determine whether the spring will always be operable during the entire pipe travel. If this size will not sctisfy the given movement, refer to the next larger size. It is customary to state the “hot” load, load when the pipe is in its het, or operating position. It is also customary to give the pipe travel direction from the cold to the hot position. If the data are given in this manner, the ‘‘cold” load is then determined by moving on the chart (up or down) in the opposite direc- tion from the pipe movement. Note that each load change given on the chart represents the following amounts of spring travel: 1/16" for the VSI-travel series; 1/8" for the VS2 travel series ond 1/4" for the VS4 travel : Step #4. The selection is now complete ond the variable support should be specified by travel series, type (physicol orrangement), and size. In the standard units it is only necessary to give the hot load; the factory establishes ond pre-sets the units to cold load position. — t EXAMPLE: Select a variable support for the following conditions: Lood, 914 Ibs (ossumed “*hot"”) Travel, 7/16" down (assumed from “ thor) Allowable percentage variation in supporting force — 20% old" to Step #1. We will assume thot Type A fits the phys- ical structure (Rod at top ond bottom of variable support). Step #2, Working within the recommended 20% limit con variation, indicated by the economic range of the Bergen chart, the given travel of 7/16" will therefore fit into the VSI trovel series. Step #3. Using the SIZE SELECTION TABLE, VSI, the load of 914 pounds with @ down movement of 7/6" falls within the ronge of loads for o size 9. VARIABLE SUPPORTS | 21 Step #4, The variable support con now be com- WS 1 A 9 Hot Load: 914 Ibs. Trovel ~ 7/16" DOWN Cold load: Established ond pre-set by factory. NOTE: If the designer is interested in the mognitude of the supporting force for the cold position of the Piping, he can refer to the Load-Deflection Chart and inthe size 9 column find the hot lood. Each lood inere- ment for the VSI series is 1/16" of travel, so for the given travel of 7/16" we move up 7 spaces OPPOSITE to the direction of the pipe travel (the given travel being down from cold to het), ond read o load of 779 Ibs. VARIABLE SUPPORT TYPICAL ARRANGEMENTS Tyee GB 22 | VARIABLE SUPPORTS LOAD DEFLECTION CHART For. Tab- ulated figures represent loads in pounds supported, at increments of deflection of 1/16”, 1/8” and 1/4” for the VSI, VS2, and VS4 travel ranges. respectively. The choice of travel range tobe used is governed by the total movement at the supportpoint and the variation in supporting force that con be tolerated by the piping system. The recommended moximum travel for VSI, VS2, and VS4 is 1/2", 1" and 2" respectively which corresponds approximately to a 20% variability, regarded good practice for the support of non- critical, lines. On a comparative basis of 1/2”” travel, the approximate variability for VSI, VS2, and VS4 is 20%, 10% ond 5% respectively. For special opplications where the supporting force falls in the region above the working range ‘ofthe standard VS unit, the housing length and the take-out will be increased by 1” for VS2 and 2"” for VS4 ond the resultant size will be marked VSL2 and VSL4 respectively. we} i{ulas| refi | | te] 20 | | Toe TTS ST AY ST] TET el et el [el el ectesslisclasbe [ea] ez] ex A} a] a] |) &] slept a] hese EVELED |S) 3) Sie) ales] ele EY ERED | 8] 3] Sle lay fale | Ss | so 2) 27S) | 8) $2 slic esas fin] se] |S) el Sleehtaleae 0137181 2et [32 TO TSS TROD 2 TER THE] SETS) TD] ERE TD TET oss 18i6| 1882253 3326|4425| 5483] 7a2|x0200| 130281338, ior|147i 18562501 [ssa es86| 6124| 129] 108051437] 1306| 1s2|tsaz|2036|2708|soo|e7a6| 6364] sa|1125i| 149591685 7] 1se2|ztr7|2ana|s7e|sa75| 6615] 879511693] 5508205724 | 9 232 |ae83|5163| 6855] $128] 12135] 1136| 21455 27 anes |5362| 116] see|1257] 1723 | 27238 '1at|ate7|s5c0| 7266] $734|1902] 1731625020 ios} ar] eafzs0| 332 10} 15158285303 1315 200g ase 1520627365 169212 2a2}35| 162192) sg 169225290397 f2e0|eana]s728] eis] iorz [ise ie0a|zzaca} 1 | 2 47 |aesalsoi| 737| oka 1280] 198125586 4534s] sos) 8117| 1078914509080 2539 3s6a|4733 6s aaee|11125| 1479] 1986826152 G67 |4875 62] as1s| 114551523] ozs 26904 37735019 657 aass|11782| 1567] ees 27717 sua0|s1se6as9| 1191212516] 143s |2as0 fis] 394 74253078 valear|sislaig ea |2e2|303|420 93} 249[ 322/44 192235 2e0}4s2 137] 252 3ea 483 201268356 e74 206274364 21] 20] 373] 95 215) 26s se | 20 235] 85517 22937 52a 223) 3s as) 59 WORKING RANGE FOR VEL, VE? BERGEN hos met the chollenge with o new and completely unique device employing disk type springs ~ a new concept in flexible supports for piping and equipment. Hoving veached the optimum in the utilization of the helical coil spring ond after considerable research and devel- ‘opment, we ore pleased to announce the introduction of the new “DS"" Units. The “DS” design utilizes the well known and proven properties of the Belleville type spring: moximum lood capacity ~ minimum space requirement ~ inherent sofety. Using the proper design and application, the disk spring will yield an extraordinary efficiency. In fact, in this Design, stondard disk spring sizes cover the entire lood-deflection range to 100,000 Ibs., from i" te 3° travel, plus an ample reserve for higher ranges. ru i p_- ° TeFLECTON The "DS" design is based on @ locd deflection curve having both o variable and o constant charocteristic. The Stonderd "DS" Units have been designed to utilize moinly the portion of the load-deflection curve, having zere-rate range, maintaining the veriobility generally to within 6%. VERSATILITY: From the graph shown obove, it is evident thet this design can produce devices ~ (A) with o totally voriable character (using the portion of the curve from 0 to the point of zero-rate range.) (B) with o totally constant character (using the portion with zero-rate only.) Choose hangers for loadings and movements As in all fields of engineering, the most effective working tool « man can be given is o simple, clear-cut procedure to follow in arriving at @ sound, economic Solution. A well thought out procedure will be op- plicable to all jobs; only the extent to which each in- dividual step is corried out will vary depending u the nature of the particular problem ot hond. the procedure for the design ond selection of pipe supports fas been broken down into the ten basic steps shown stove. With the use of a typical pipe support problem, we will endeavor to point out some of the considere- tions and methods involved in performing the various steps. Before starting with a typical problem, it would be well to discuss hangers generally and also to Some of the basic deto peculior to the i study. The two main factors gover 19 selection of pipe hangers are: (1) Changes resulting from thermal expansion which cayses movement of pipe dve to increase of length of legs, end displacement of equipment connec: tions. (2) Weight 0 be supported which depends on pipe used, flowing medium, insulation chosen, and ‘number end fype of fittings in line supported. A formal solution for movement and loads would copproach that of pipe stress colevlctions in complex in general, these costly, time consuming calculations con be replaced by simple practical solutions that give fesults well within the pipe tolerances thot con be Ceegied in noma ntlieton Host pent pig Can be hung or supported correctly by using common Sense and'¢ minimum of theory ond caleulotien. ‘To hang or support pipe properly, certain basic dato must be on hond. Facts assembled here have been helpful in the solution of od supper problems. Let us examine this data before seeing how they ore used. Pipes expond with temperature in: eccompanying this expansion is one of the two most SELECTING PIPE SUPPORTS| 79 important factors thet must be token inte consideration when selecting hengers or supports. Toble |, page 86, gives expansion in inches per foot for various carbon nd alloy steels bosed on an installation temperature of 70°F. As on example, ossune a line with o 70°F. installation temperature and 900°F. operating tem- erature, expansion for low chrome pipe 7-81 inches per 100 feet or -O781 inches per foot, For ¢ run of 30 ipe under these cond! feet of straight expansion at 0} 3.905 inches. ions, the total 50" (,0781)-= Henger spacing must be close enough to prevent cessive sogging that overstransexplpe or interferes with drainage. Table Il, page 86, lists maximum recom mended spacing between supperis for various sizes of pipe. For estimating purposes on piping 3" and larger, 2 good rule of thumb for determining hanger spacing is pipe size in inches plus 10 to obtoin allowable spon in feet. CHARTIII indicates a relationship between stress and deflection for a particular length of pipe when the pipe acts similar to 0 guided cantilever. Use the chart on page 87 to find the length necessary to absorb @ given deflection ond still remain within @ perticuler stress range. Moterial weights con be found on pages 88 to 97 of this catalog. Now thet we know whot dote ore sed when selecting pipe ‘supports, we can proceed with the Sonple protlem. For fos! accurate honging of pipes, fellow these ten steps. 1. Draw @ freehand isometric sketch of the piping system. A sketch similar to Fig. 1 is good. I necessary to draw it to exact sesle; if proportions are ‘approximate, results will be sotisfactory. 2. Spot in hangers tentatively. First put in end hangers ‘as near terminal connections es possible. Keeping hengers close prevents overlooding connec- fions on equipment. Next, refer fo Table If and space intermedi Ste hongers 20 thet recommended spacing 15 not ex ceeded for size pipe being hung. 3. Examine building framing in vicinity of hanger locetions and adjust locations on sketch to minimize need for additional hanger supporting steel. 4. Check for possible interference with other piping ‘ond equipment. 5. Calculate distribution of weight of simple ond practical methods shown for vecights of vertical legs, bends, end fr ote ‘at equipment flange. 6. Summarize hanger loodings in tabular form os shown. This will also provide a weight check of the iping system. It is also desirable to show the hanger loading on the isometric sketch. 80 SELECTING PIPE SUPPORTS| 7. Calculate distribution of pipe exponsion to each hanger. Select the method for this from those shown on page 85 based on the number of vertical legs. Follow calculation procedure shown. Establish movement of top and bottom of vertical legs first. This will necessarily include weight of pipe, water or other fluid being trans- ported, fittings, flanges, valves, insulation and any other related items the weights of which are olso to be supported as port of the piping system. Pipe materiel weights ore shown in bold face type in the tables on pages 89 thru 97. The weights ore subject to tolerances of applicable manufacturing specifications. Weights of insulation are shown for both calcium silicate ond for conventional 85% rmognesia alone or in combination with diatomaceous silica. Weights ere bosed on the density ‘of 11 pounds per cubic foot for calcium silicate and 85% magnesia and on 21 pounds per cubic foot for dictonaceous silica. Weights shown include approximate weights of canvas, cement, paint, wire ond bénds but not weatherproof or other special protection. Weights of other compositions of pipe covering will vary and should be obtained from the insulation manu- focturer, Add weight of weatherproof protection wh tion are teleted to conventional thickness reco-nnendations by insulation manufacturers ond do not necessarily agree with insulotion speci” -ations for a particular job. Insulation speci- ficotions should be reviewed prior to developme:> of finol weights of specified, Weights shown for insulo- To determine weights of insuletion to be added to weights of flanges, valves and fittings, multiply weight per foot of pipe covering by appropriate factor shown in lightface subscript. Weights shown for butt welding reducers are for one pipe size reduction. Weights of 125 ond 250 pound cast iton valves are for volves with standard flange ends. Weights of steel valves ore for welding end type. To calculate weights of flanged end steel valves, odd tobuloted weight of valve to weight of two corressonding slip-on flanges. Volve weights vary between particular manufacturer's designs. Weights shown herein are approximate only and do not include weights of electric motor operators or other devices which may be specified for particular valves. It is suggested thet .-~er possible, valve weights should be obtained from the menufacturer of the particular valves which ate to be installed in the piping. { tr 1 PIPE SIZE WEIGHTS OF PIPING MATERIALS 1 PIPE SIZE PIPING WEIGHTS] 89 “ 20 160. $0, xs 2179 27 8 1 20 2s of 3 2 # ae |r. 13 v7 3a as 2p ag ery “a ee a “ “ “ 3 % i 3 S 4 4 rm + 1 1 1 ve 3 ih if ti bi 2 12 13 12 E s 12 1S 2 3 1 va or 3 3 3 3 3 3 300] 400] 500] 600] 700 | e20 ficoo| [1e0] 200] 200] «00 500] «00 ) 700] a0o fiooe Temps Renge °F we |e [ae [te | te | ae [te] | te | te | te | te "ee. | te 350 | dn | Soo | 650 | 750 | 950 [at | [195 | 350 | 39 | abe | so | 659 | 15 | oo [rtd Thicknaag inch g [emesis [> [fe [2 [a afetts [2 psf?
