Third Grade News

Welcome to third grade! I am excited to be back here at Brentwood after

twenty-five years! My childhood memories at Brentwood are flooding in. I
included a short autobiography on our class web site so that you can read
about who is teaching your child. I look forward to working with you to make
this school year one filled with many happy memories and learning
experiences.

During the month of August we will be Our upcoming math concepts and skills

will use these items in a writing
activity.
I use a balanced literacy approach for
reading. It includes whole group
instruction, small group instruction,
independent reading, and components
of both mentor texts and The Daily Five.
I will include information on mentor texts
and The Daily Five on our class website
so that you will understand how your
student is becoming a stronger reader,
who thinks critically about what he or
she reads. Vocabulary will be an
integrated component of our weekly
story from our new reading series Open
Court. At our parent meeting I will be
sharing with you all the specific
components of that program.

Common and proper nouns will be our first Language Arts concept. We
will also use mentor sentences to enrich our understanding of all
Language Arts concepts and to improve our writing.

Wellness In order to maintain consistency in our
