# Dear Parents,

Along with the Pearson Envision series, we will be having weekly math facts sets that all first grade
students are responsible for learning. Georgia Standards of Excellence states that students should be
fluent in addition and subtraction facts through 20 by the end of first grade. This means that they do
not count on their fingers or work with a number line, etc., but know the facts automatically. Each week
the students will work on the assigned facts set in class and also at home. The tests will be on Tuesdays,
beginning August 15th and will take place each Tuesday following. The first set is made up of the
addition facts through five which were covered in kindergarten. This set should allow the students to
become accustomed to the process, while working with material they should already know. The tests
will consist of the set for that week as well as some questions from previously learned sets, so the
students will need to continue practicing all of the facts throughout the year. The facts included in the
first six sets are listed below as well as the anticipated date for each sets assessment. Please remember
that the assessments are cumulative so the students are responsible for all of the facts up to that point.

## Set 1 Set 2 Set 3 Set 4 Set 5 Set 6

(K Review) (Makes 6 & 7) (Makes 8 & 9) (Makes 10) (Sub. to 3) (Sub. to 5)

0+0 0+6 0+8 0+10 3-0 5-0
0+1 1+5 1+7 1+9 3-1 5-1
0+2 2+4 2+6 2+8 3-2 5-2
0+3 3+3 3+5 3+7 3-3 5-3
0+4 0+7 4+4 4+6 2-0 5-4

1+3 3+6 1-1 4-2
1+4 4+5 0-0 4-3
2+2 4-4
2+3

The students must be able to answer the addition problems in either order. Example: If 1+2 is listed in a
set, they will need to know that 1+2=3 and that 2+1=3. We recommend making flashcards each week to
practice at home.

Please let us know if you have any questions. We are very excited about the students becoming fact
fluent throughout the year.

Sincerely,
