Effective classroom management requires a system in place that
encompasses all parts of teaching. It is not just a part of teaching. Classroom management is everything.
Questions to think about:
1. How is my room setup? 2. Do I know where my students are at all times? Do I know in the room where my target students are located? 3. Have I thought through who can sit next to whom? Where do I want my students who need more attention or special seating? 4. Am I in proximity to key students when I teach? When they are doing classwork? 5. How are my lessons? Are they engaging? Do they get students up out of there seats and moving around? Do they engage students with different styles of learning? Are students bored? 6. Am I clear with expectations? Do I repeat them often (daily)? 7. Do I follow through with rewards and consequences? Am I doing so fairly across all students? 8. Am I keeping transitions quick and to a minimum? Have I talked through expectations in transition times?
