Week 9 Final Project Hum 130
Running head: Roman Catholicism and Islamic faith Religion of the World Week 9: Final Project University of Phoenix By Joseph Camp Religions vary depending on which part of the world you are in. The differences can be vast, and even confusing. I have found two religions that share similarities and differences with one another. In this paper I will be explaining the differences of Roman Catholicism faith and Islamic faith. In a world that has its fair share of extremism it is interesting to find common ground among these two religions. There are also significant differences between these two religions as well. I have interviewed a lady named Amy in my dining room that is knowledgeable in Roman Catholicism and has been in the Catholic faith since her birth and has been to other churches in showing proof of true faith. The Questions and Answers asked at the interview process: Why have you chose to be Catholic? I think being Catholic is a great way to live your life and how to make a spiritual enhancement. I was born and raised as a Roman Catholic and will continue being Roman Catholic until I die, I think the religion is beneficial, relaxing, and honest. I enjoy the Catholic Church as well because you can sit down with the priest and have a serious one on one talk. Unlike some other churches, you try to sit down and have a talk they want to go out to a bar and have a beer and when you ask them why are you out having a beer and I am trying to sit here and discuss issues with my family. The excuse that comes out is usually We are all sinners, nobody is perfect. That makes absolutely no sense, there is a thing as prevention and I believe that some branches in Christianity tend to use the Everyone s a sinner excuse too much to do things they should not be doing when they can avoid them. I have tried one other religion that was for a week which was Baptist and I was not satisfied the pastor seemed to spend more time talking about his personal life than worrying about speaking of the word of god as well as showing more worship. They seemed to as well be more invested in getting donations from the church members too. It was not even 10 minutes before I was in this church and the church was already sending the bucket out requesting donations for money and they were stating We are needing extra money to pay the bills this month, We are kind of low Which we come to find out later is not true because the pastor admitted to the church that he needed money for himself to pay his bills not the church. He also said he would pay back the church members that donated. How do you handle how people speak of Catholicism? I take it as they misunderstand the religion and I kind of honestly do not care, I believe that it is god who should do the punishing not a human being. Because god does say in the bible not to judge others as well as we should not argue back with them especially on a religious issue. God will handle these problems when the time need be. But there are exceptions because I do believe that government agencies have the right to judge cases based on evidence found to prosecute and or detain/arrest a person to keep the safety and security of others and community. I have asked many priest from multiple religions (Catholic, Baptist, Greek Orthodox, Episcopalian, and Southern Baptist) how they felt about judgment being given to government agencies whether it be a sin or not and if it is a sin would it be a mortal sin or venial sin? Most of the responses I got back were verses but some of the other responses I do remember off top my mind were it is a sin for us to judge negatively of others but if we are judging positive upon others then we are not sinning. I apologize but I do not see that anywhere in the bible. I sometimes believe people are mislead and/or are guessing their belief and
living by their guesses. What inspires you to continue being Catholic? My family inspires me to be Catholic, I enjoy going to the beautiful church and spending time there, I tend to spend majority of my time at my local Church which is St. Mary s. I go every Sunday and I participate in there events the services they offer as well inspire me to continue being Catholic. Do you feel a relationship between you and God? Yes, I do feel a relationship between me and God. I feel that god has touched my heart and has brought me a way of helping others by giving me the inspiration and spirit to become a Registered Nurse at a juvenile boy s facility. How do you feel about confessing your sins with a priest? I do not mind confessing my sin s with a priest. Why not? What s wrong with getting a little counseling from your priest? They are there to give guidance and to help you lead a path with god to live a better life and to show you that god is real and we will help show you he is real. Do you feel that the rituals the Roman Catholic Church uses are appropriate to bring you a positive and close relationship between you and god? Yes, I do. We sing about god. We bow down and worship him. We praise and tell how much we love him during ritual. The Catholic Church I think is the true church of god as sad by the Catholic Church. We do believe that other religions are false religions because they are not following the rituals and the true beliefs of god and what he has planned for now and the future. Do you feel that the Catholic Church teaches more about God or more about the Rituals and the Church itself? I believe that the Catholic Church has a mixture of those two (rituals and god) but spends more time on rituals that have to do with teaching about god. I am not sure if this seems to make sense. We do worship god and show him how much we do care and thank him and for his son Jesus Christ for dying on the cross for us. But, we do believe that we need to teach the knowledge in order for people to truly know god to love him and be able to understand what his son Jesus Christ did for us as well as how the Holy Trinity has been established. Honestly, I believe they are false religions are out there but I cannot say out in opinion which religions they are because we are not suppose to judge but although we are not suppose to judge we cannot completely stop what we are thinking in our mind when it comes to judging. But I will say that if you join the Catholic Church. Your life will change drastically and amazingly for the best and you will enjoy the relationship that the Roman Catholic church gives you not only with god but with the people the silence, the respectful church members, the music, the rituals, and the gospel. I enjoy the Catholic Church and recommend it to anyone who wants to make a life change that will make them better. Comparing and Contrasting Other Religions: Catholics believe that Jesus Christ is the son of god and that he died on the cross for our sins and set us free. Islam s believe that Jesus Christ is a prophet and that he did not die on the cross for our sins or set us free. They look towards the prophet Mohammad, who in Muslim s eyes is the Messenger of God. The Muslim s believe that Prophet Mohammad was a man and that he followed Adam, Abraham, Moses, David, Solomon and Jesus as the last of the great prophets to receive divine revelation. As the Catholic s believe the Holy Bible is the bible from God. The Muslim s believe that The Qur an is the word of God (Allah). Another comparison difference is Catholic s believe in the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, Holy Spirit). The Islamic faith does not believe in the Holy Trinity they believe Allah is God and Mohammad is the Messenger of god, leaving Jesus as a prophet. Catholic s do a lot of rituals to worship god and to show their love and compassion for him by doing Mother Mary prayers, confessions, Holy Communion, and etc. But the Islam s have a far much more interest in worshipping God (Allah) they believe that you need to pray 5 times a day in different times of the day. A wonderful comparison and amazing one is Conclusion: The conclusion I have came to is Roman Catholicism is a wonderful and beautiful religion that s branched off Christianity.
I believe that there are some contradictory as they speak of how they perform confessing sins as that is making them a god when there is only one god and that god is Jesus Christ in the Christianity belief and it does not seem correct that a branch off of Christianity would consider themselves part of Christianity and perform a action like that. The religion appears to be a false religion in my conclusion. I also believe that Christianity and Islam have major differences. Christianity appears to believe in Jesus Christ as the son of god and the one who died on the cross for us and the Holy Trinity. Although the Islam s believe that Jesus is a prophet and Mohammad is the Messenger of God, seems to be more important and does not believe in the Holy Trinity as for example.
