The four conceptual models namely Meaningful Learning, Discovery

Learning, Generative Learning and Constructivism are useful in achieving
instructional goals through preferred application of educational technology. With
these conceptual models, we shall see how effective teachers best interact with
their students in innovative learning activities while integrating technology to the
teaching-learning process.
Meaningful Learning
This gives focus to new experience that is related to what the learner
already knows. A new experience departs from the learning of a sequence of
words or memorization through rote memory but gives attention to meaning. It
assumes that:
Students already have some knowledge that is relevant to new learning
Students are willing to perform class work to find connections between what they
already know and what they can learn.
In the learning process, the learner is encouraged to recognize relevant
personal experiences. A reward structure is set so that the learner will have both
interest and confidence, and this incentive system gives positive reinforcement to
learning.
Discovery Learning
This kind of learning is differentiated from reception learning in which ideas
are presented directly to students in a well-organized way, such as through a
detailed set of instructions to complete an experiment or task. To make a
contrast, in discovery learning students perform tasks to uncover what is to be
learned. New ideas and new decisions are generated in the learning process,
regardless of the need to move on and depart from organized set-off activities. In
discovery learning, it is important that the student become personally involved
and not subjected by the teacher to procedures he/she is not allowed to depart
from.
In applying technology, the computer can present a tutorial process by
which the learner is given key concepts and the rules learning are directly
presented for receptive type of learning. But aside from that, the computer has
other uses. In a computer simulation process, for example, the learner himself is
made to identify key concepts by interacting with a responsive virtual
environment. The learner thus discovers the concepts from the experience the
virtual environment provides.
Generative Learning
In generative learning we have active learners who attend to learning events
and generate drawing from this experience and draw inferences thereby creating
a personal model or explanation to the new experience in the context of existing
knowledge. Generative learning is viewed as different from the simple process of
storing information for motivation and responsibility is said to be crucial to this
domain of learning. Examples of this in the area of language comprehension are
activities such as writing paragraph, summaries, developing answers and
questions, drawing pictures, creating paragraph titles, organizing ideas/concepts,
and others. In sum, generative learning gives emphasis to what can be done with
the pieces of information not only just an access to them.
Constructivism
In constructivism, the learner builds a personal understanding through
appropriate learning activities and a good learning environment. The two
accepted principles are:
Learning consists of what a person can actively assemble for himself and
not what he can receive passively.
The role of learning is to help the individual live/adapt to his personal
world.
With these two principles in turn lead to three practical implications:
The learner is directly responsible for learning. He creates personal
understanding and transforms information into knowledge. The teacher plays an
indirect role by modeling effective learning, assisting, facilitating, and encouraging
learners.
The context of meaningful learning consists in the learner connecting his
school activity with real life.
The purpose of education is acquisition of practical and personal
knowledge, not abstract or universal truths.

Reflection:
These four conceptual theories of learning gives us the idea and the
realization that education ought to enhance and develop a persons skills and
abilities by making use of what has been presented in understanding present
situation, or in solving a problem or explaining the relevance of what has been
previously learned and what has been currently being learned. Actually this does
not mean that we will stop memorizing or doing drill activities. But these things
not ought to be the way/method to educate a student or introduce a concept to
be learned because in the first place only the memory will be exercised with a
drill, after which, most of the times we forget and cannot apply it.
I also do not think that Constructivism abandons universal truths for we
know that most truths are a product of mans discoveries. Yes it is true to say that
it started with a faulty belief (ex. The world is flat), but since it is human nature
that man is inquisitive, he finds a way to discover the truth of what has been
presented. With that, it made man able to adapt to his environment because he
learns to build personal understanding out of what has been discovered and
applied it to his own. In other words universal truths did not appear to be
universal at first, it started with an experiment and discoveries before it had been
made a universal truth. So I dont think, constructivism abandons universal truths
for constructivism just wants to prove that we should not stick on what is readily
there and had been proven already. Let us acquire knowledge that will be helpful
for us in our survival.
IT Enters A New Learning Environment
It is helpful to see useful models of school learning that is ideal in achieving
instructional goals through preferred application of educational technology.
These are the models of Meaningful Learning, Discovery learning, Generative
learning and Constructivism.
In these conceptual models, we shall see how effective teachers best
interact with students in innovating learning activities, while integrating
technology to the teaching learning process.

Meaningful learning
Meaningful learning gives focus to new experience that is related to what
the learners already know. New experience departs from the learning of a
sequence of words but gives attention to its meaning. It assumes that.

Students already have some knowledge that is relevant to new learning

Students are willing to perform class work to find connections between
what they know and what they can learn.
In the learning process, the learners are encouraged to recognize relevant
personal experiences. A reward structure is set so that the learner will have both
interest and confidence, and his incentive system sets a positive environment to
learning.
Discovery learning
Discovery learning students perform tasks to uncover what to be learned.
New ideas and new decisions are generated in the learning process, regardless of
the need to move on or depart from organized setoff activities previously set. In
discovery learning, iti s important that the students become personally engaged
and not subjected by the teacher to procedures he/she is not allowed to depart
from.

Generative Learning
Generative learning is viewed as different from the simple process of storing
information. Motivation and responsibility are seen to be crucial to this domain of
learning. The area of language comprehension offers examples of this type of
generative learning activities, such as in writing paragraph summaries, developing
answers and questions, drawing pictures, creating paragraph titles, organizing
ideas/concepts, and others. In sum, generative learning gives emphasis to what
can be done with a piece of information, not only on access to them.

Constructivism

In constructivism, the learner builds a personal understanding through

appropriate learning activities and a good learning environment. The most
accepted principles of constructivism are

Learning consist in what a person can actively assemble for himself and not what
he can received
passively.
The role of learning is to help the individual live/adapt to his personal world.

These two principles in turn lead to three practical implications:The learner is

directly responsible for learning. He creates his personal understanding and
transforms information into knowledge. The teacher plays an indirect role by
modeling effective learning, assisting, facilitating, and encouraging learners.
The context of meaningful learning consists in the learner connecting school
activity with real life.

The purpose of education is the acquisition of practical knowledge, not abstract

or universal truth.
Reflection
Through these new conceptual models of learning,I knew that there are better
ways to learn other than memorizing I admit that I'm a typical kind of students
that sometimes I'm just memorizing without understanding but now the different
view of learning as what I learned is the application of the learning not only in
school but in real life situation. And as a future teacher I prepared to see how
these theories of learning can be more specifically applied through the integration
of educational technology in the teaching and learning process.

Content

Meaningful learning gives focus to new experience that is related to

what the learner already knows. New experience departs from the learning of a
sequence of words but gives attention to meaning. It assume that students
already have some knowledge that is relevant to new learning, Students are
willing to perform class work to find connection between what they already know
and what they can learn. Discovery learning, students perform tasks to uncover
what is to be learned. New ideas and new decisions are generated in the learning
process, regardless of the need to move on and depart from organized setoff
activities previously set. In discovery learning, it is important that the student
become personally engaged and not subjected by the teacher to procedures
he/she is not allowed to depart from. Generative learning has an active learner
who attends to learning events and generates meaning from this experience and
draw inferences thereby creating a personal model or explanation to the new
experience in the context of existing knowledge. Constructivism, the learners
builds a personal understanding through appropriate learning activities and a
good learning environment. The most accepted principles of constructivism are:
learning consists in what a person can actively assemble for himself and not what
he can receive passively. The role of learning is to help the individual live/adapt to
his personal world.

Experience

In a broader sense, the above conceptual models of learning are very

infrequent to a teacher. As I always observe, teachers are always in the turning
point of malpractices. They doesnt care what learning strategy they impose, what
their concern is to be an expert in the classroom setting, either there students
learned or not. Only some selective subjects where the following learning style
can be really observe. Like Chemistry subject that is subject to experimentation.

Reflection

Integrating technology into instruction is very helpful especially if it is

address to application of learners to their different relevant experiences.
Accordingly, effective teachers best interact with students in innovative learning
activities, while integrating technology to the teaching-learning process.
Learnings seems to be feckless if this cannot be applied by students to their
everyday life. Well, Constructivism approach guarantees the needs and means of
the learner in order to accomplish their mission as students. Besides, the
following learning models are best accepted in modern teaching strategy because
it doesnt only cover the three lower domains of Blooms Taxonomy (knowledge,
comprehension and Application) but directly to the most accepted part which is
the Creating. I convinced anyway that Constructivism abandons universal
truths for we all know that most truths are a product of mans discoveries. Yes it
is true to say that it started with a faulty belief (ex. The world is flat), but since it is
human nature that man is inquisitive, he finds a way to discover the truth of what
has been presented.

Application

Learning is always occurring, but not all are relevant to the lives of the learner.
And therefore, I am the teacher, responsible in providing those significant things
to be learnt by my called probationer. With the use of Information Technology as
a tool for giving the instruction, then the assurance of a successful classroom
application will be made possible as ever with the cooperation of active students.

The teachers are following the syllabus they just want to finish their lesson
cover to cover they even dont care if their students learn about the lesson.

In the tradition method of training, students learn to rote, memorization

and set instruction from their teachers. They imbibe knowledge from what and
how their teachers import information to them. In the use of modern technology
students are encouraged to seek ideas and apply them to personal
experiences. They are made aware of new information which they can relate and
apply to their own lives to add to what they already know.

I realized that learning must be meaningful if we apply new trends of

technology, especially integrating IT in Education. Effective teacher best interact
with students in innovative learning activities while integrating technology to the
teaching learning process. Being a teacher in the future is not easy, there are
many studies to conduct especially the integration of IT in education, and i
realized that integrating IT to learning is more meaningful it is because the
students can see real pictures from the computer, not only pictures but a real
video. Through integration of IT based education the learning is being more
realistic and the pupils are aware of the new invention and discoveries of the
world today.
