Growth of Media and entertainment industry in India

In FY16, the Indian Media & Entertainment (M&E) industry registered a growth of 9.1 per
cent over 2015 & reach USD18.7 billion, in value terms. During 2015-2020, the industry is
expected to grow at a CAGR of 14.33 per cent from 2015-2020 with the market expected to
reach to USD35.2 billion by 2020 The next 5 years will see digital technologies increase their
influence across the industry leading to a sea change in consumer behaviour across all
segments The entertainment industry is projected to be more than USD62.2 billion by FY25
With an intent of ushering in an era of conversational computing, Microsoft has released an
artificial intelligence chatbot known as Ruuh for Facebook Messenger. The English speaking
chatbot is only available to users in India & is to be used for entertainment purposes

WHAT changed the dynamics of Media and Entertainment Industry?

Some of the examples which brought a change were:

Hotstar, a digital streaming platform owned by Star India Ltd, has entered into a
partnership with Zapr Media Labs, a media tech company based in Bengaluru, to
perform analysis on mobile audience that can be leveraged by brands to create
personalised communication.
Bigtree Entertainment Pvt. Ltd, which owns Bookmyshow, has acquired a 75 per cent
stake in Townscript, an online event registration and ticketing platform based in Pune.
PE major Warburg Pincus has purchased 14 per cent stake in Indias largest multiplex
chain PVR Ltd for Rs 820 crore (US$ 123 million).
Amazon has launched its Prime Video service in India at a competitive annual
subscription price of Rs 499 (US$ 7.48), with a one-month free trial, including range
of Hollywood as well as international movies, TV Shows and nine Indian original
shows, in its content library.
Reliance Capital, part of Anil Ambani-led Reliance Group, has announced the sale of
its radio and television broadcasting businesses under Reliance Broadcast Network to
the Zee group for Rs 1,900 crore (US$ 285 million).
