Defines Islamic Education as:
“Recognition and acknowledgement, progressively instilled into man, of the proper places of things in order of
creation, such that it leads to the recognition and acknowledgement of the proper place of God in the order of
being and existence”

 Proposed philosophy of Islamic education based on Ta’dib, not Tarbiyah.
 Adab occupy the centrum concept of education in Islam:
- Purpose of seeking knowledge in Islam- to inculcate goodness in man as man produce a good man and
individual self
- Aims of education in Islamic perspective- to produce a good man
- The good man is the man of adab- incalculated by ta’dib
 All kinds of knowledge should guide to Tawhidic belief and to readiness to follow the shari’ah in accordance to
devotion to God
Three fundamental elements of Islamic Education
Process  ta’dib: instilling and inculculation of adab in
Core knowledge must composed of
man
 religion(din)  justice (‘adl)
 covers every aspects of life, universal and
guide man to his salvation  man (insan)  right action (‘amal
 Islamic education integrated educational as adab)
system those educate knowledge, morality,  knowledge (ilm  the university
spirituality, both theoretically and and ma’rifah) (kuliyyah-jami’ah)
practically  wisdom (hikmah)
 Islamic education must be referred to concepts of Tawhid, Quran, Shari’ah and Sunnah
Content Knowledge consists of two kind:
God-given Acquired
essential for man’s guidance and salvation comprise of the rational, intellectual and
(religious sciences) philosophical sciences
necessary and obligatory to all Muslims is obligatory to some Muslims only
(fardu‘ayn) (fardukifayah)

The task of future scholars is to cover both
Psychology, cosmology and ontology,
fardu‘ayn and fardukifayah knowledge
legitimate elements of Islamic philosophy
due to their respective ability and
including valid cosmological doctrines
specialty, to develop a better contribution
pertaining to the hierarchy of being
for the Ummah.
6. Linguistic sciences- Arabic, its grammar,
lexicography and literature Good man produces good society,
government and leadership
Recipient  An educated man is the man who recognize of the place of anything in its system
 By rational capacity, man is the creature who know the meaning of the meaning in its own
context
 Spirituality element of man is very essential: heart (al-qalb), soul or self (al-nafis), spirit (al-ruh) and
intellect (al-aql) –man must life in spiritual way because the duty of man is to obedience to God
