1.7 Board of Directors

The board of director comprises 13 directors, with the secretary, Minister of Information

and Broadcasting of Pakistan as its Chairman. The executive head of the corporation is

Managing Director.

PTV now has approximately 5197 employees in all its office around Pakistan whether the

sanctioned posts are 6750 in number so still there is room for 1553 employees in PTV.

The employees of PTV are divided in nine pay scale groups on the basis of work, skills,

responsibilities, work position etc. every group than accordingly has a different pay scale.

The pay for higher group is more than lower group.

2.2 Admin and Personnel Department

I have worked in Human Resource Department of PTV. The main purpose of HR is to

keep and maintain all the records of employees in the organization. I have worked at PTV

HQrs Islamabad and their Personnel department is keeping data of all the employees

working in PTV all over the Pakistan. Which is a very tough job to maintain and upgrade

the data of more than 5000 employees.

I have been told about a lot of valuable stuff which increases my knowledge and helped

me to understand practical work in a better way, which is as follows

2.2.1 Hiring Process of PTV

Hiring of an employee is a step by step process for the organization. PTV hiring process

is as follows

Step 1. Advertisement of vacant seat.

Step 2. Application by a person for job with his full details.

Step 3. Hiring committee check out persons qualification i-e. whether a person is fit or

not for the desired post.

Here the regional posts depends on region appointment from group 1-3

Step 4. Call for Interview if person meet the requirements of that post.

Step 5. Selection board Approval

Step 5. Issue call letter

Step 6. General Assessment of the person

Step 7. If person get more then 50 marks he is considered for the job.

Step 8. Approved by Managing Director

Step 9. Appointment letter with date of joining issued with its all terms and conditions

(medical, society clearance etc.)

Step 10. Applicant must have to submit appointment report on date of joining

Step 11. Applicant fill up bio data form and his PTV record keeping starts. The employee

files must have to be update whenever a new order is passed against any employee.

2.2.2 Groups Detail

PTV has a unique ranking for its employees. Employees in PTV are ranked by Groups.

The top most level (upper management) lies in Group-9 and the lower most level

(workers) lies in Group-1. The employees in Group 1 are only in Admin sections which

are non-technical.

From Group 1-4 are workers. Group 5-6 are supervisors and Group 7-9 are managerial

staff.

Group 1A employees includes technicians, admins, personnel, engineering having just

Middle Qualification.

Group 2 employees includes technical workers, lift machine and TV technicians having

Matric degree.

Group 3 employees hired in electrical, air conditioning, and auto and diesel cadre having

F.sc degree.

Now in Electronic and Civil Cadre, there are two types of Inductions

i. If person has done three years of diploma then hired as Associate engineer or

associate civil engineer in Group-4.

ii. If person has done graduation then hired as Senior TV engineer or Senior

Resident engineer in Group-6.

2.2.3 Transfers/ Promotion/Retirement

When an employee is retired from his post, a vacant post left. So the sanctioned posts

become more than the actual employees, then to fill this gap transfers and promotions are

necessary.

When a group-9 officer is retired the effect of promotions goes to group-5, and when a

group-4 worker is retied the effect of promotions goes to group-2.

Transfers at PTV

Transfer by organization can occur at any time.

Promotions

At PTV promotions occurs as per seniority basis as well as fitness and suitability. All

Promotion are approved by Managing director of PTV.

Probation period

Probation PTV is given to employees when they start a job or when the employee gets

promoted or in termination case. In PTV probation period for promotion is;

Group 1-4 is 3 months.

Group 5-9 is 6 months

Retirement

Retirement refer to permanently stopped your job or profession.

At age of 60 employee retired at PTV.

PTV give employees L.P.R (leave prior retirement) this period starts exactly a years back

from retirement date. Employees may avail this leave to accept the retirement face.

2.2.5 Types of Leaves given in PTV to employees

i. Casual Leave

Casual leave is for those employees who are permanently entitled for one year.

This is 20 days leave per year but if employee does not avail it the leave is

automatically cancelled on start of next year.

ii. Earned Leave

If an employee served more than 15 days in a month regularly then he/she is given

4 days leave for that month and If they does not avail it. It simply add up with the

next month and for the whole year it become 48 days of leave.

iii. Maternity Leave

This is leave with pay and this leave is for the personal issues of employees

iv. Quarantine Leave

This is a leave availed in case of sickness.

v. Leave without pay

If a person serve less than 10 years at PTV, the employee is eligible to avail 2

years leave from the work but without pay.

vi. Leave not due

If an employee has already availed the entitled leaves but due to some genuine

reason he/she not be able to come to work then it is a leave not due.

vii. Disability Leave

If an employee could no longer serve the organization due to some illness, he/she

can take leave by suggestion of due.

viii. Ex-Pakistan Leave

Leave for employees going abroad for vacations or for study.

At PTV by studying the employees profiles I have to adjust the leaves properly by

observing the nature of leaves availed.

2.2.6 Pay roll Adjustments

I have to compare the pay scales of employees. If juniors are paid more than the seniors

they balance the pay by giving increments. I have to check out whether increments are

given or not.
