Subject: C65 v5.40 and v2.20 Software Release

Systems Affected
Software v5.40 affects CE certified Capstone Model C65 MicroTurbine systems
configured for use with gaseous fuels operating on v5.XX software with LCM iCB.
Software v5.40 is not compatible with systems operating on software v4.5X with
HCBSA.

Software v2.20 affects all Capstone Model C65 Microturbine systems configured for
use with liquid fuels.

Summary
System software versions 5.40 and 2.20 introduce power factor functionality compliant with
VDE (Verband der Elektrotechnik Elektronik Informationstechnik) directive VDE-AR-N 4105.
Version 5.40 for Gaseous Fuels Updates
Power factor functionality added to system software
o Default is OFF if software is installed in the field
o Activation requires purchase of kit that includes activation key and new
system label
o New systems shipped after 03 June 2013 have functionality ON by default
Low speed fault history is now updated every 5 seconds
Version 2.20 for Liquid Fuels Updates
Power factor functionality added to system software
o Default is OFF if software is installed in the field
o Activation requires purchase of kit that includes activation key and new
system label
o New systems shipped after 03 June 2013 have functionality ON by default

Recommended Action
CAUTION: Systems with HCBSA that must be compliant with VDE directives
must be upgraded to LCM iCB. Order kit 610208-100 to upgrade. Failure to
observe this caution can result in equipment damage.
Install v5.40 software on all CE systems configured for use with gaseous fuels on next
scheduled service visit
Install v2.20 software to systems configured for use with liquid fuels that need VDE
power factor functionality
If VDE functionality is desired, contact Capstone Customer Service to purchase VDE
upgrade kit (610698-100). When calling, have the following information available:
o System catalog number (Example: 65R-DR4-HU00)
o System serial number (Example: 9087)
o Original date of manufacture
Kit (610698-100) contains:
o Activation key to enable VDE functionality
o New label that reflects electrical current capabilities
When loading this software, reload all PMs with latest version of PM Programmers
software (v2.31A or later)

Responsibility
NOTE: No travel or labor will be reimbursed for this software installation.

It is Capstones responsibility to:


Provide this Service Notice containing description of the software improvements and
recommended action to Capstone's Authorized Service Providers.
NOTE: VDE functionality defaults to OFF in field installations. Purchase of an
optional kit (610698-100) is required in order to activate.
Make available the software, at no charge, to Authorized Service Providers for the
resolution of issues or enhanced functionality related to fielded microturbine systems.
Make available upgrade kit 610698-100, at no charge, for systems built between
01 July 2012 and 03 June 2013.
It is the Authorized Service Providers responsibility to:
Identify affected systems and notify the customer.
Obtain the software zip files from the Members Only section of the Capstone website.
After completion of service task, submit completed Field Service Report to Capstone.
