SESSION OUTLINE
1. INTRODUCTION: (5 MINUTES)
Get the players in and explain the focus of the session (working on bowling accuracy and
playing straight). Explain and ask the players the importance of accurate bowling and playing
straight when batting, as well as important parts of doing each well.

2. WARM UP: (10 MINUTES)

Short run and stretch, followed by a game of catching tennis to get the players moving and
coordination working.

3. TYPE OF SESSION: (65 MINUTES)

12 players split into two groups. One batting and one bowling. 6 Bowlers to bowl at cone targets on
the ground. Both with progression to make it more difficult. 30 minutes practicing each skill.

Batting - Batting group of 6 split into pairs and hit balls from tees between cones (demonstrate correct
technique before the start of the drill). One player hitting the ball other retrieving and then dropping
the ball in the progression.

Start with foot beside the ball, practicing striking the ball off the tee with a straight bat between the
cones (5m away from the tees and 1m apart of each other, to hit between). Once the player is
executing this at a high level and accurately, then they move into stepping to the ball on the tee once
this is being executed at a high level and accurately move to the second player dropping the ball in
front (Drop Drives) hitting the ball between the cones, starting with foot already planted and then
progressing to stepping to the ball once execution is at a high standard and accurate.

Bowling 6 Players with a ball each (demonstrate correct technique), bowling at cone targets on the
pitch. These targets are a square on a good length on and outside off stump about 1m by 50cm.
Bowlers are to start of three paces walking in, focusing on technique and accuracy. Once this is being
achieved at a high level then progress to half run ups again focussing on technique and accuracy, once
this is being achieved at high level of accuracy then move to full run ups and to make more
challenging make the bowling target smaller or move it to differ areas of the pitch (ie. Yorker, full
ball, left hander) to challenge the bowler.

NB: For both drills, if players are struggling with technique, run through the correct technique with the
player and get them to demonstrate it back to you. Asses if it has been demonstrated correctly and
what needs to be improved/focussed on. Not all players have to progress together on the drills
4. COOL DOWN: (5 MINUTES)
Slow Run and stretch all major mussel groups.

5. CONCLUSION: (5 MINUTES)
Discuss with the players the major issues they came across and what they found hard and what
they did to overcome them. As well discuss what you noticed and what was done well and
work ons going forward as a group and individually.

EVALUATION:
Review what was done well and not well, make action plans for progressing players in their front foot
shot and bowling accuracy. This can include power when striking the ball when batting (ie hand
speed) once they have demonstrated the technique at a high level. With bowling it can involve
variations, such as slower balls, swinging the ball, improving accuracy over longer periods while
bowling.
