In 2007, Authority in Suriname declared Indigenous People‟s Day a public holiday. The day acknowledges the existence of its indigenous people. Today there are many indigenous tribes such as Akuriyo; Arawak; Carib; Sikiana; Trio; Warao an Wayana Indians settling in various parts of Suriname.

Mega Program on Roots, Tubers and Bananas (MP RTB), Consultation Meeting with Stakeholders CIAT, IITA, CIP and Bioversity Cali, Colombia

The Trinidad and Tobago AgriBusiness Association (TTABA) will be among the stakeholders represented at the Consultation organized the Group of Centers for International Agricultural Research, better known as CGIAR, of which CIAT is a member. In 2010, an International Consortium was established, which includes all the centers and creation of a Mega Fund which will be responsible for managing all financial aspects of the Centers. In the case of cassava, a Mega Program on Roots, Tubers and Bananas (MP RTB), has been created, coordinated by CIP that includes CIAT, IITA, CIP and Bioversity. One of the activities that will take place in the short term is a Consultation Meeting with Stakeholders, in CIAT, Cali, Colombia, on August 11, 2010. At this meeting, a select group of 25 collaborators of the four centers will participate in a series of conferences that will present the Mega program. Participants will have the opportunity to contribute with their ideas and suggestions to shape the Mega Program. CIAT and CLAYUCA nominated TTABA as an important organization to contribute in the design phase of the Mega Program. National Mango Day is meant to raise The Ministry of Agriculture‟s vision to develop and sustain the agro-processing industry. Officials from the Ministry will host a media blitz on that day that promises to educate and inform us on the by-products of mango and its medicinal properties among other things.

IICA Outstanding Agro processor Awards Competition 15 August 2010 Antigua and Barbuda

The Christian Valley Mango Festival promises to be bigger, better and more diverse. The festival offers many activities and workshops, including: Budding and grafting workshop; Tours of the nature trails; Film: Sweetest Mango; Story telling Live entertainment; Book sale; Sales of fruits and plants; Sales of agro-processed products; Agro-processors competition; Food stalls by local community group and will be open to the public from 9:00am to 5:00pm. The theme After Mango Festival Jam “Flavors Mango Festival Fete” is promising to be enjoyable and starts on August 14th at 7:00pm ending on August 15th at 2:00am; at the Christian Valley (Jenning Primary School Basketball Court. Admission to this event is only $20 at the gate and $15 for persons who attend Mango Fest and show ticket stub). Entertainment by Dj Supa Dymond. The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture presents „The Most Outstanding Agro-Processor” is expected to attract agri-business entrepreneurs in the agriculture sector as it recognizes those persons in the country with outstanding agro-processed products. This initiative was first introduced in 2006 and sort to promote entrepreneurship, innovation, and employment in the agri-business sector, by rewarding the agri-business entrepreneur who through the utilization of fruits and vegetables, makes outstanding contribution to local agriculture. The use of local raw materials, development of a new product, use of a new technique, expansion of an existing business or provision of a new service are contributory factors, and should make a significant contribution to food security, employment generation and development of new markets. Winners will be selected by the Christian Valley Mango Festival Judging Committee on Sunday 15h August , 2010, judging at 1 pm.
