so much for comin'. [crowd cheers] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RP8jezihjec I DID IT FOR YOU [crowd is cheering] David: Thank you so much. [crowd cheers] David: How's everybody doin' this afternoon? Are we good? [crowd cheers] David: I say this afternoon cuz [points to sun] that guy's still out. [crowd laughs] David: Oh, Lord. [pauses] Alright. Well my name's Dave... [crowd cheers] David [looking at band] These are my friends. [crowd cheers] David: And uh...we're not used to this oppressive heat. [laughs] Alright. We uh, we're very excited to be here. Again, thank you guys so much for comin' out. We've, we've been uh, we've been off the road for awhile now workin' on uh...on another record. [crowd cheers] David: We uh...thought we would uh, you know, take a break from the studio and come and...hang out with you guys. You guys good with that? [crowd cheers] David [motioning to VIP area]: How 'bout up there in that fancy VIP tent? You guys good? [VIP crowd cheers. David laughs]
David: That was funny. Not only are they all the way back there, there's less of them. And so when you guys cheered, it sounded like this [motions for main crowd to make some noise] [crowd cheers] David [pointing to VIP area] And when the VIP cheered... [pauses, and hears nothing from the VIP crowd. David laughs] Now I wonder what happens when everybody cheers at once. One, two, and three. [crowd cheers] David: That's much better. This song is off of the record that's already been out for quite some time. It's a song called "Heroes." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjzIwFMK8Js http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOQCO9QBU1Y http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aV30mulJdzM http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/8784229#utm_campaign=twitter.com&utm_source =8784229&utm_medium=social HEROES [crowd is cheering. David wipes his face with a towel] David: Thank you guys so much. [crowd cheers as David takes a drink of water] David: There's a sign up front here that says "Got Album?" Not yet. We're close, though. I will say that. We're gettin' close. [crowd cheers. David notices a sign in the audience.] David: Aw, theirs is too good. Uh [motions to security] security? Kind sir? [points into audience] This girl here? With the sign that says-- [to audience member] no, you gotta-- [to security guard] turn. [points to audience member] No, the other one. The other one. That one. [reading sign] "David, can I please meet you?" [to security guard] Will you bring her up please? [crowd cheers. The girl makes her way through the crowd, and the security guard stands next to her, ready to lift her up on stage. David laughs] David: Alright. One-two-threeee. [The security guard lifts the girl on stage]
David: Look at that. Give it up for the security! [crowd cheers] David [making a fist and doing a small fist pump]: Yes! [turns to girl] Alright. How are you? Girl: Good David: What's your name, darlin'? Girl: Logan David: Logan. Did you make that sign? Logan: What? [crowd laughs] David: Did you make that sign? Logan: Yes David: It's very beautiful. You wanna show it to the audience? Show 'em the sign. [Logan turns her sign so it faces the audience. It says "David Cook Rocks. I love David Cook" in brightly colored bubble letters. Crowd cheers] David: Alright. Show-- you gotta show 'em the other side. That's why we're meetin'. [Logan turns her sign around. As she's doing so, she asks David a question] David [laughing]: Can your sister come on? [crowd laughs] David [looking out into the audience] Where's the sister? [Logan points to her sister] David: Oh, right there? Eh, [shrugs] come on. Bring it on. [crowd cheers. Logan's sister comes through the crowd and the security guard stands next to her to lift her on stage.] David: Alright, here we go. Take two, security. One. Two-and-[The security guard lifts the girl on stage. Crowd cheers]
David: Schhhh. I'm impressed. I am impressed. I can't even lift myself. And...ya' know? [to girl] Alright, what's your name, darlin'? Girl: Kelsey David: Kelsey and Logan. [to Kelsey] You wanna show 'em your sign, too? [Kelsey turns her sign to face David] David: Look at that. Show 'em-- [mumbles something indicating she can turn her sign around] [Kelsey turns her sign around] David [reading sign]: "David, I'd do anything to meet you." [crowd laughs and cheers] David: You're gonna make me blush. In front of all these people [motions to audience with his head], though. It's embarrassing. Well guys, thank you very much for comin' to the show. I hope you guys have a good time, and uh... [looks around] ah, you know, we could probably...they could hang out for a couple songs. [to the band] You guys have a problem with that? [crowd cheers] David: I'm lookin' for s-- specifically for the tour manager. [puts hand up] These contracts get weird sometimes. [train whistle goes off] David: Thank you, train, for that. [crowd laughs] David: Is that gonna happen all night? [crowd says "yes"] David: So you guys have done this before, is what you're saying. [laughs] Cool. Alright. [to Kelsey and Logan] Well I'll tell you what. You ladies [looks for a place for them to stand], you go hang out... [motions to someone at sidestage] you could hang out with this fine family right here. For a couple songs. [Kelsey and Logan start walking off stage. Kelsey waves to David] David: Give it up for them. [crowd cheers. Logan sits in a chair at sidestage while Kelsey stands. David laughs]
David: I'm wonderin' if we shouldn't just make this like a fitness test for the security folks, ya' know? The next song it'll be four, and the next song it'll be eight. [crowd cheers] David: Before you know it, it'll be anarchy up here. [crowd laughs] David: Alright. Back to some music, huhhh... [trails off] [crowd cheers] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JF1mSDCD158 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=co_6FjPXjh4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_REOfBNrE40 DECLARATION [Audience members shout things at David. David takes a drink of water, then has a short off-microphone exchange with an audience member. He tosses his water bottle onto the stage.] David: Ahhhh. [Picks up a towel off the stage] How we doin' guys? We good? [crowd cheers as David wipes his face with the towel] David: Wonderful. So let's uh...let's take a moment. Let's uh, let's talk about these guys on stage up here for a second. [crowd cheers] David: Uh... [walks to stage right, then gestures to Andy] We got this guy-[The neck of David's guitar nearly hits Monty, who steps out of the way] David: Ohp! [To Monty] could you excuse me? Please? [points to stage left] Step over there. [Monty moves farther down stage left as crowd laughs and awwws] David [to Monty]: I'll get to you. [laughs] Everybody give it up for Andy Skib! [gestures to Andy] [crowd cheers. Andy waves. David walks toward stage left, stopping at center stage] David [gesturing to Kyle]: This is Kyle. Kyle Peek.
[crowd cheers. David watches as Monty quickly crosses from stage left back to his spot at stage right] David: OK. [David continues heading left, stopping right next to Neal] David: He just wants top billing. That's all that is. Ladies and Gentlemen [gestures to Neal] the Doctor. Neal Tiemann. [crowd cheers. Neal puts a finger in the air and turns it in a circle] David [slowly walking back to stage right]: And I have to saunter allll the way back to stage right...to introduce this gentleman. [stops next to Monty] Well...that's a loose term, really. [Monty takes a drink as the crowd reacts] David [looking at crowd]: Ouch. [does a fist bump in the air] Zing. This is the Man-atee. This is Monte Carlo. This is...Ricardo Montalban. This is Monty Anderson, everybody! [crowd cheers] David: This song is called "Mr. Sensitive." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1P6OHM-J9o http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8okxeI0G80 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PqcF-qNjtU MR. SENSITIVE [David sees a t-shirt in the audience. He walks to the edge of the stage and takes it from the person holding it, then walks back to the microphone.] David: So...I'm uh...I was born in 1982, for anybody that cares. [some people in the crowd cheer] David: Thirty or so of you. That's awesome. And uh...so I grew up at a time when, when... [dramatically] when cartoons meant somethin'. [crowd laughs and cheers] David: And uh...somebody brought this shirt, and I just had to share it with ya', cuz...
[David holds up the shirt. It has the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on it. Crowd cheers] David: For those in the know, this...warms my heart. This... [sighs contentedly]. I think this show might have to be over. This is as good as it's gonna get. Right here. [crowd laughs and says "Noooo"] David: What do you guys think? [crowd yells out "No"] David: Alright. [David drapes the shirt over a monitor on stage, then fixes it to make sure the logo is facing the audience. He then looks at the security guard, points to his eyes, then points to the security guard] David: In case you haven't figured it out, this show is not scripted at all. [David starts playing the next song] David: So this uh...this song involves a little...crowd participation. [crowd cheers] David: I'm going to get to a point in this song...I'm gonna step away from the microphone. And I need everybody to be reeeeeally quiet when I do that. OK? [crowd cheers. In the meantime, the t-shirt falls off the monitor] David: There's a good reason for it, I promise. [people in the crowd start commenting that the t-shirt has fallen off the monitor. A tech comes on stage and puts it back on the monitor. David laughs] David: That's right. Make sure the stuff that really matters is... [crowd cheers] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfAtAjTSDpc http://www.4shared.com/video/mkip_TVA/Ninja_Turtle_Shirt_to_Dave_BG_.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QspZ9M3BmMc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyIlxIFgy3I LIE
[crowd is cheering. David turns and faces the drumkit, then glances back over his shoulder at the crowd. Crowd cheers louder. David goes back to the center microphone and motions for the crowd to make more noise. They oblige] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjRS5R9nBvA STRAIGHT AHEAD [first part of banter unavailable] David: It's been an eventful twenty-four hours. We...we've been workin' on this record in L.A. and, and we uh...we, we, we got up...at uh, I think we s-- we left for the airport at 8 A.M. Pacific yesterday, and we flew from Los Angeles to Atlanta. [Someone in the crowd yells out "We got in an accident!"] David [to audience member]: You got in an acc-- well then, I won't even tell this story. I mean, you win. So... [crowd laughs] David: I'll let you, you-- you know what, you tell your story instead. Alright. [starts walking to the front of the stage] I'll come to you, so...my... [laughs and turns around] So they got in an accident. That sucks. I'm sorry to hear that. [to audience member] I'm glad you're here, though. Can I go back to the story now? We'll talk later. We'll talk later. [sees audience member's reaction and points at her] Don't roll your eyes at me! [crowd laughs] David [walking back to the front of the stage, pointing at the audience member]: Miss. Miss. MISS. [stops and stares her down] I will handle a lotta guff from people... [pauses, sees audience member's reaction, and laughs] She's like: "Oh God!" [crowd laughs] David: Um, so, so we got in to Atlanta and, and then...we were supposed to fly in to uh... [to bandmates] what is the name of the city? We were supposed to-- we were supposed to fly in to, to Newport News. [crowd cheers] David: Huey Lewis and the Newport News. [pauses] And uh... [pauses] we didn't. [crowd laughs] David: Then our flight got canceled, and so we were...we almost rented a van and drove nine and a half hours old school...
[crowd cheers] David: But that didn't happen. Instead...we flew uh, [to Andy] we flew in to Richmond, Andy? Is that right? [crowd cheers] David [to Andy]: You-- you can talk. That's cool. Yes? No? [Andy just smiles and nods. David laughs]
David: So we got in to Richmond last night, at, like, 1:45, two in the mornin'. Drove here...without our baggage. [crowd reacts with "oooh"s and "uh-oh"s] David: Baggage came at, like, noon today. Thank God. We were able to get all nice and dressed up for ya'. Kyle even took a shower, guys. [crowd cheers] David: And...that's awesome. [crowd laughs. David looks at Kyle and grins] David: Give it up for Kyle and the shower! [crowd cheers. David laughs] David [to Kyle]: Am I in trouble later? [Kyle responds off-microphone] David [laughing]: Can I get in trouble? [laughs] Alright. So... [pauses] I tell ya' that story because...this next song is, is uh, is one that we actually really enjoy playing. And, and after that last twenty-four hours we just need to have a little bit of fun. You know... [crowd cheers] David: So...we're gonna get kinda loud. [crowd cheers] David: It might get a little heavy. So what I need is this: I've noticed throughout the show, there's been [puts hands up and flutters his fingers] pockets of people just [in a sing-song voice] around the audience. And you guys are kinda maybe sitting down a little.
[Several people in the crowd react by saying "Nooooo"] David: I'm not looking at anybody directly. [points at his eyes and then points out at a specific audience member] [crowd laughs] David: But maybe just for this one song... [David notices someone in the crowd stand up] David [pointing to audience member]: I like that. That, that girl in the neon green shirt just popped right up. She was like: [quickly backs away from the microphone and throws an arm in the air] "Yes!" [to audience member] So we're gonna dedicate this song to you, young lady. That's what we're gonna do. This song's called "Bar-Ba-Sol." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9nTNk-ZJAw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDGAjZyBj2M http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkXxLYSbI74
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6sxZHKnC18 BARBASOL [crowd is cheering. David laughs at something he hears from the crowd] David: You guys have been absolutely incredible today. Thank you again so much. Give yourself a round of applause. [crowd cheers and applauds as David takes a guitar from his guitar tech] David: We've been really, uh, we've been really fortunate to, to be able to do the things that we do. Ya' know, work on records and...and uh, ya' know, travel the country and...sometimes the world. And we get to play these shows for you people, and then you guys come out and you just make...uhhhhh [pauses while he thinks of the right word to say] I can't even put into words. You guys come out here and just get into it so much. It just makes everything...all the frustration of tryin' to...put a record together the right way, you guys make it all worth it. Thank you guys so, so much. [crowd cheers] David: We uh...we shot a music video some time last year. And, and in that video, um...I had to learn how to...sing this song backwards.
[crowd cheers] David: I'm not-- [puts a finger in the air] disclaimer! We're not doin' that tonight. So... [looks back at bandmates] This is "Come Back to Me." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_t2mdZ-UoU COME BACK TO ME ENCORE David: So...thank you very much for havin' us...back. Ya' know? [crowd cheers] David: Uh... [laughs] so I-- but I have a little brother named Andrew and, and he's uh-- he's a great dude. But...obviously he's my brother, and I love him. He's a good guy, too. But...Andrew has this problem. [crowd laughs] David: Um...Andrew is uh...is really bad at uh, at, at, like, me tryin' to do surprise things for him. And uh, he blows it every time. And, and I, and I tell you that...just for this reason. Um...we kinda blew the surprise earlier, folks. We were soundcheckin', and... [crowd cheers] David: I told you we were workin' on a new record, and we wanted to come out here and do somethin' that...was new for you guys. [crowd cheers] David: So...but just like Andrew, [in mock exasperated tone] you guys had to ruin the surprise. [crowd cheers] David: But that's OK. It's OK. We're still gonna have a blast doin' it. This is a new song called "Paper Heart." http://www.4shared.com/video/jkQUuM3F/David_Cook_-_Paper_Heart_-_Bus.html? dirPwdVerified=63326e3b PAPER HEART [crowd is cheering] David: Thank you very, very much. [wiping brow] Wooo!
[crowd continues cheering] David: So.... [puts his hands in the air, palms up, and moves back and forth as if his hands are a set of scales] [crowd cheers louder] David: So that's-- so maybe we should put that one on the record, you think? [crowd cheers] David: My manager's somewhere here. So hopefully she's listenin'...and...she'll know...that it's a yes...to "Paper Heart." [crowd cheers] David: [sighs] Lord. You guys are incredible, man. I'm lovin' it. In fact-- [cuts himself off] [crowd cheers] David: In fact, [looks back at bandmates] we should just start the set over. Let's just do it again. [crowd cheers. Kyle starts playing the intro to "Kiss on the Neck." David laughs] David: But no... [crowd awwws] David: No. I mean [puts hand in the air, palm up] ehhhh. [someone in the crowd yells something at David] David [laughing]: Some dude goes [in "manly" voice] "Suck it up!" [looks at person in the audience and puts a finger in the air] [crowd laughs] David: I am suckin' it up. [crowd ohhhhs] David: Ohhhhh [puts hand in the air and wiggles his fingers] Alright. So...we got...one song left. [pauses] And... [crowd awwws] David [mimicking crowd]: Aw, man! [crowd awwws again]
David: We're comin' back tomorrow! So... [crowd cheers] David: So this song is uh, is actually the first single off of our record...that uh, already out. Not the new one. And uh...we've been...uhh I've been constantly amazed to see this song kinda pop up all over the place. I mean, the most amazing shelf life, and...and that has nothing to do with me, or anybody on this stage. It has everything to do with every one of you guys goin' out and supporting it, and... [crowd starts cheering] David: ...supporting live music. [crowd cheers] David: So thank you for that. Thank you for givin' me a job. Thank you for giving us a job. Thank you for comin' and spending your Saturday evening with us... [crowd cheers] David: And uh...we'll be here tomorrow. Hopefully we'll see all your bright, shining faces then, too. [crowd cheers] David: This is "Light On." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwXdVex0ui4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIOBlSS5tgM LIGHT ON David: Virginia, thank you guys so much! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAZLilZaD9g END OF SHOW
