Homework Set #1

1. Lieu & Sorby, Chapter 2, Problem 3, parts (c), (e), (g), (k), and (u). Sketches are to be done by hand
in pencil on isometric drawing paper, without drawing tools. Use shading to emphasize lighting and
surface properties. Isometric grid paper can be downloaded from the class bCourses site or purchased
from local graphic arts stores. All the sketches (properly identified) can be placed on a single page.

2. Lieu & Sorby, Chapter 2, Problem 7, parts (c), (e), (g), (i), and (u). Sketches are to be done by hand
in pencil without drawing tools on blank paper, i.e. without alignment grids or dots. Use shading to
emphasize lighting and surface properties. All the sketches (properly identified) can be placed on a
single page.

3. Lieu & Sorby, Chapter 2, Problem 8, parts (a) and (c). The objects are to be shown as 3-dimensional
pictorials. Use shading and cartooning to emphasize lighting and surface properties, temperature, and
motion. For (a), sketch the object from two different viewpoints. For (b), the mug is made of glass,
and contains a liquid that is boiling (like water in a microwave oven). Sketches are to be done by
hand in pencil without drawing tools on blank paper. All the sketches (properly identified) can be
placed on a single page.
