Appliances and Tackles.
All the tools and tackles used for the lowering and
lifting shall have valid inspection approvals.
Requirements mentoned in KNPC SWP of lifting
Appliances and Tackles shall be strictly followed.
Area around the tank and crane shall be barricaded
while man basket job is on.
When the use of conventional means of access to
any elevated worksite would be impossible or more
hazardous, the use of crane and man basket can
be authorized to be used in transporting employees
but not as a working platform.
Rigging plan for using of crane and man basket
shall be made and approved by the General Works/
Rigging Section.
All heavy lifting equipment should have necessary
third party inspection certificate.

Load chart and a copy of valid third party
certificate shall be available in the crane operators
Mobile crane must have valid safety inspection
certificate and precautioned outlined in the HSE

Appliances and Tackles shall be followed.
Necessary lifting device / tools to be used and
ensure validity of applicable certificates.
Ensure lifting appliance is not used beyond its safe
working load.
Soil or floor condition shall be taken into account
while positioning the crane. Use spreader mate for
the outriggers regardless of ground condition for
firm footing and uniform leveling.
Outriggers shall be fully extended and should have
at least a minimum distance of 1 meter from
nearest structure and never be operated close to
trenches or edges of an excavation.
Work should be carried out by the qualified
personnel only.
Drop area shall be barricaded; Two guide ropes
(tag lines) shall be used to prevent swing of the
man basket..
Ensure that, during the course of lifting, no
personnel shall stand under the man basket.
Use of cranes at night shall not be allowed.
Crane hook shall be prevented from swinging while
the machine is in transit or not in use.

electrical lines shall be checked before proceeding
for the work. No passengers shall be allowed to
ride on the body of the crane.
Executing division shall ensure that riggers and
crane operators are qualified, certified and
competent for the task.

The man basket must be provided with a standard
guardrail system that is enclosed from the toe board
to the mid-rail to keep tools, materials, and
equipment from falling on employees below.
Wear a harness system with a lanyard. The lanyard
must be attached to an approved anchorage point.

Do not sit, Stand or climb on the manbasket guard
rail. Do not use boards, ladders, other devices, or
extensions in the manbasket as a work position.
An access gate must not swing outward during
hoisting and must have a restraining device to
prevent accidental opening.
Do not use the manbasket if the manbaskets
permanent data plates are missing, defaced, or not
Attachment assemblies such as hooks must be
closed and locked to eliminate the hook throat
Ensure hoist ropes are free of kinks, multiple part
lines are not twisted around each other and ropes
are properly seated on drums and in sheaves.
The man basket must be with a minimum safety
factor of five.
