Please accept this application for the Content Writer position at the University of Akron in the department
of Communications and Marketing. I believe that my creative mindset as well as my professional
experience both as a writer and editor uniquely situates me to be a successful part of the University of
Akron as a Content Writer.

At the heart of it, I have always believed that education has the power to transform individuals and
communities—and that a huge part of education is being able to communicate ideas and thoughts
effectively and for a wide population. I believe I possess those qualities, and that they are necessary in
order for a content writer to fulfill their educational role. In addition to having extensive experience
working in an educational setting and with students, I hold a master’s degree in philosophy and have
written for an array of online outlets in many different capacities, ranging from political commentary and
book reviews to narrative-centered essays and historical reflections.

My professional experience in the educational setting began at Siena Heights University as a residence
life staff member, student activities coordinator, admissions representative, and orientation team leader
for new students. In these positions I acquired the skills to communicate effectively, manage conflicts if
and when they arise, and to take an open-minded approach to mentoring, teaching, and motivating
students.

My passion for learning led me to seek a Master’s degree in philosophy from Cleveland State University.
While pursuing my degree, I played an active role as a Program Assistant for the Professional
Development Center. My assistantship gave me the opportunity to edit and design course materials from
instructors to ensure that teaching and learning benchmarks were being met and content was up to date. I
also wrote news stories, edited brochures and course descriptions, and handled social media for the
Professional Development Center with an eye on keeping the local community engaged and interested.
Through this I acquired the knowledge to efficiently and comfortably navigate the administrative
applications such as PowerPoint, Word, and Excel in addition to gaining a deeper understanding of the
marketing involved. I believe this writing and editing background, along with my current role as an editor
at a textbook publishing company, makes me an ideal candidate for this position.
