Where is the Galilee Basin and

why do we need to preserve it?

The CO2 that could be
produced each year
from burning the coal
mined in the Galilee
Basin would be greater
than the 2009
emissions of the UK or
Canada.
The Wangan and
Jagalingou people are the
traditional owners of the
land in Queensland’s
Galilee Basin. They are
fighting corporate
conglomerate Adani for
the right to block mining
on their land.
“We do hereby firmly REJECT a Land Use Agreement with Adani for
the Carmichael mine on our traditional lands.
We DO NOT consent to the Carmichael mine on our ancestral lands.
We DO NOT accept Adani’s “offers” to sign away our land and our
rights and interests in it. We will not take their “shut up” money.
We will PROTECT and DEFEND our Country and our connection to it.”

The Galilee Basin is also
home to the endangered
black throated finch.
What will happen if we allow the
Galilee Basin to be mined?
If we allow the Galilee
Basin to be mined,
farmers, already dealing
with ongoing drought, will
be robbed of their much
needed groundwater.

What will happen if we allow the Galilee Basin to be mined?
Every new coal mine built further reduces our
chance of avoiding runaway climate change.
Any new coal mines contribute to global warming and ocean acidification which
are killing our precious Great Barrier Reef.
If we allow the Galilee Basin to be mined, we may lose
our precious Great Barrier Reef, and 60,000+ jobs which
rely on the reef will also be lost.
Who is Adani and
what does Adani
have to do with the
Galilee Basin?
Adani is an Indian
conglomerate owned by
the Adani family and
headed by Gautam Adani.
Adani wants to build the Southern Hemisphere’s
largest coal mine (the Carmichael mine) on the lands
of the Wangan and Jagalingou people, and ship the coal
from their Abbot Point coal port, through the Great
Barrier Reef to India.
What do our politicians think of Adani
and his plan to mine the Galilee and ship
millions of tonnes of climate-warming
coal through the Great Barrier Reef?
Our government currently
subsidises the fossil fuel industry
to the tune of over

$8 Bn per year.
QLD Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk meeting with Gautam Adani.
Our Government has created the ‘Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility’
(NAIF) which is planning on loaning Adani $1BILLION OF TAXPAYER’S MONEY.
Malcolm Turnbull, with Labor support, has moved to ‘FIX’ NATIVE TITLES
LAWS so Adani’s mine can go ahead.
What does the community think
of Adani’s proposed
climate-warming mega-mine?
