Course Description: Late Assignments


Music 9(45) is the beginning of music at the high Students cannot turn in

Creating, Making and Presenting:
Keyboard or Guitar:
o Proper posture and playing position
o Demonstrate musical literacy (notes, rhythms, expression markings)
o Play with fluency and confidence at a basic level
o Learn at least three songs on piano, guitar or band instrument
o Full class/ensemble performances
o Play two major scales on chosen instrument
Theory:
o Basic music literacy (notes, rests, expression markings)
o Time signatures
o Accidentals and major scales
Composition
o Create short melodies on piano, guitar or band instrument

Perceiving, Reflecting, and Responding:


Development of critical listening skills
o Identification of orchestral instruments, ensemble combinations, and vocal
ranges.
o Make personal connections to music
o Identify elements, genres, and styles of music

Understanding and Connecting Contexts of Time, Place and Community:


Intro to Music of other Cultures (African drumming)
Select and research music from another country

General Classroom Procedures:


Disruptive behaviours including: defiance, refusal to work/comply, disrespectful
language/gestures, name calling/ridiculing, lack of preparation for class, chronic
tardiness, or any other offence that interferes with a positive learning environment with
not be tolerated in the music classroom and will be reported to the KVHS administration
or to a parent if they become persistent.

As with any course, participation equals learning. You will get out of the course
what you put into it, and, subsequently, your mark will reflect the effort you make.
