1.7 HYPOTHESIS

The study will prove that the conversion of waste to building materials and integrating

it to the construction of the buildings will produce a green housing community intended for

the urban poor and reduce the waste generated daily.

It will also help alleviate and improve the lifestyle of the people and to reduce

population of informal settlers by 10 to 15% in District I of Manila.

It will also give the chance to renew the image of the city by being the first to

actually integrate waste, which is the number 1 source of pollution and global climate change,

in a housing community.

Site visits will be conducted for site selections and for the S.W.O.T. analysis of the site.

1.10 DEFINITION OF TERMS

Community composed of groups of people and families living with organization and

unity that shares common values.

Community Mortgage Program mortgage financing program which assists legally

organized associations of residents of blighted or depressed areas to own the lots they

occupy, providing them security of tenure and eventually improve their neighborhood

and homes to the extent of their affordability.

Family consist of a mother, father and children. Average of 4 members but in the

urban poor the average is 6 members.

Housing the act of building houses or dwellings to ensure that all of the people will

have shelter which is a necessary requirement in the Filipino culture.

Plastic hollow blocks hollow blocks that are incorporated with grinded plastic waste

and bits of glass materials and pulverized under pressure for it to form. Non-load

bearing but more durable and cheaper than regular hollow blocks.

Recyclommunity comes from two words: recycle and community, a community

composed of recycled materials which are integrated to the buildings and the

surrounding environment.
