Applications
In the production of many crude oils, one of the problems encountered is the buildup of organic deposits in the
wellbore, on the formation face, or within the formation itself. These deposits not only hinder oil productivity, but
also can cause inefficiency or failure in production equipment.
Paraffin and asphaltic material is present in most crudes. These organic materials can precipitate out of solution
if the normal equilibrium conditions of producing a well are altered. The equilibrium conditions can be changed
during drilling, work-over or production operations. If organic deposits precipitate out of solution, they can reduce
a wells productivity by plugging flow channels and/or by causing the produced fluid to become viscous stabilized
emulsions.
These special Paravan solutions are designed to help dissolve and disperse both paraffin and asphaltene
deposits. These systems can be used treat water and/or emulsion blocks in oli producing wells. Each system is
slightly different allowing the selection of the best treating solution for a wide range of well conditions.
Features
Paravan D is a waterless acid solution composed of concentrated acetic acid, an aromatic solvent, a surface-
active agent and a mutual solvent. Without water, it is a non-corrosive, one-phase solution. In the presence of
water, the acid will ionize, separate and react with any soluble material present. Paravan D is an effective
stimulation aid used to break crude oil emulsions and water blocks. In addition the ionized acid will react with
inorganic scale deposits or the calcareous portion of a formation.
Paravan E is a waterless acid solution composed of concentrated acetic acid, an aromatic solvent and a surface-
active agent. Without water, it is a non-corrosive, one-phase solution. In the presence of water, the acid will
ionize, separate and react with any soluble material present. Paravan E is an effective stimulation aid used to
break crude oil emulsions and water blocks. In addition, the ionized acid will react with inorganic scale deposits
or the calcareous portion of a formation. Paravan E should be used instead of Paravan D in wells where a
strong water wetting action isnt required and high temperatures are applicable.
Paravan F is an aromatic solvent combined with a special surface-active agent and a mutual solvent. It is an
effective stimulation aid for treating troublesome asphaltic deposits and breaking crude oil emulsions or water
blocks. Paravan F should be used instead of Paravan D in wells where a reactive solution (acid) is not necessary
or could be detrimental.
Benefits
Excellent for use as an emulsion or water block remover.
Applicable to a broad range of downhole temperatures.
Operationally easy-to-use.
Safety Precautions
Protective clothing, eye protection and facemask should always be worn when mixing chemicals. Refer to
Material Safety Data Sheet for additional information.
Limitations
The most appropriate Paravan system for any well should be determined by a pilot test with the hydrocarbon in
the well.
