RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Research Internship, Nano Systems Laboratory, University of Manitoba (October- November 2009).
Design, modeling and testing of a Micromachined Electric Field sensor based on Thermal
actuators.
FEM based modeling using COMSOL multiphysics to characterize the resonant frequency and
sensitivity of the sensor.
Proposed an alternate efficient lever mechanism for amplification of the thermal actuator motion
thereby increasing the sensitivity and reducing power consumption (under implementation).
Design and testing of a self resonating circuit for the physical testing of Micromachined electric
field sensor.
Guide: Prof. Dr. Cyrus Shafai, Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering Department,
University of Manitoba.

Undergraduate Thesis, Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, India (Aug 2008-April 2009).
Development of Nanoparticle based Surface Acoustic Wave humidity sensor.
Study of Mass Loading effects of pNIPAAm nanoparticles on SAW devices (SAW delay line and
SAW resonator) with humidity change.
Design and analysis of a feedback oscillator for development of integrated SAW humidity sensor
based on pNIPAAm Nanoparticles.
Guide: Prof. H.B. Nemade, Associate Professor, ECE Department, IIT Guwahati.
Research Internship, North Carolina State University (May-July 2008).
Development of driver for Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) Actuators with simultaneous
electric power control and resistance reading.
Designed and implemented a micro controller based PWM based power control system for SMA
micro-wires which takes instantaneous resistance reading for feedback, thus, eliminating the
need for external sensors for feedback based control of SMA wires.
Used a constant current source instead of conventional voltage source for PWM control for
design of a compact system.
Study of Electro-mechanical behaviour of a shape memory alloy actuator.
Guide: Prof. Stefan Seelecke, Associate Professor, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
Department, NCSU.

Junior Year Internship, Computer Science Department, University of Auckland (July 2007)
Development and testing of exercises on image stitching, anaglyph, projections and mapping of
panoramic images.
Guide: Prof Reinhard Klette, Chair, Information Technology, Computer Science Department,
University of Auckland.

Undergraduate Research Project, Centre for Nanotechnology, IIT Guwahati (MayDecember 2007)
Information Storage using Color Imprints at Nanometer Resolution.
Multicolor imprints results in use of multi- bit storage scheme enabling higher bit density.
A micrometer resolution experiment was successfully undertaken to demonstrate feasibility.
Special coding schemes for efficient storage were developed.
Color based storage technology was proved to be superior to CD and DVD technology.
Guide: Dr. Arun Chattopadhyay, Professor, Department of Chemistry and Centre for
Nanotechnology, IIT Guwahati.

Winter Training, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Bombay. (December 2006)

Image analysis of a rotating triangular plane and analysis of Optics of a complex periscope setup
Software was developed to calculate the instantaneous axis of rotation and also correct the
counter rotation inculcated by the periscope optics.
Guide: Dr J.K.Mukherjee, Scientific Officer (H), Control and Instrumentation division, BARC.
