RECRUITMENT OF CONSTABLES IN WEST BENGAL POLICE , 2010

Applications are invited in the prescribed format for recruitment of Constables (Male) in West Bengal

Police from candidates possessing qualifications and fulfilling conditions as stipulated below. The posts of

Constables carry pay scale of Rs. 5400 – 25200 (PB-2) + Rs. 2600 (Grade Pay) with admissible allowances and

prospect of future promotion as per West Bengal Government Rules issued from time to time. The recruitment

will be conducted through West Bengal Police recruitment Board, which has been constituted to ensure fair,

transparent and impartial recruitment with the help of modern technical gadgets.

A. QUALIFICATIONS –

(i) Must be a citizen of India.

(ii) AGE – Not less than 18 years and not more than 27 years as on 01-01-2010. Upper age limit may be

relaxed by 5 years for S.C. / S.T. candidates and by 3 years for O.B.C. candidates of West Bengal. S.C. /

S.T. / O.B.C. candidates not belonging to the State of West Bengal shall be treated as General

candidates.

(iii) MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS – Must have passed Madhyamik Pariksha of the West

Bengal Board of Secondary Education or equivalent examination under any Board recognized by any

State Government or the Central Government.

(iv) MINIMUM PHYSICAL MEASUREMENT –

(a) For All categories : Height – 167 cms.

Chest – 78 cms. with minimum expansion of 5 cms(78cms – 83cms)

Weight – Proportionate to height and age as per medical standard.

(b) For Gorkha, Garwalis, Rajbansis and Schedule Tribes :Height – 160 cms

Chest – 76 cms with minimum expansion of 5 cms.(76Cms - 81 Cms)

Weight - Proportionate to height and age as per medical standard.

B. PHYSICAL EFFICIENCY TEST (QUALIFYING) –

After qualifying in Physical Measurements the candidates shall have to pass the following Physical

Efficiency Test:-

1600 Mtrs. Run (qualifying time is 6 minutes 30 seconds).


C. WRITTEN TEST (90 MARKS) :

The candidates who qualify in the Physical Measurement Test and Physical efficiency Test will

be eligible to appear in the written examination of objective type on General Awareness,

General Knowledge, Knowledge of elementary mathematics, Ability to observe and distinguish

patterns and basic knowledge of English and Bengali /Nepali / Hindi languages. The

candidates are expected to fill up the correct blank spaces against a question number on the

machine readable OMR Answer Sheet.

D. INTERVIEW (10 MARKS) :

The candidates who qualify in the written examination will be called for interview. The

interview will be conducted by West Bengal Police Recruitment Board through different Range

Recruitment Boards. A merit list of the provisionally selected candidates will be prepared on the basis of

the marks obtained in the Written Test and Interview by the West Bengal Police Recruitment Board.

E. MEDICAL EXAMINATION :

All provisionally selected candidates who will be declared to have clear Verification Roll having

'NO OBJECTION' issued by the competent authority will be sent for the medical examination

at the State Government designated Hospitals. The candidates must not have knock knee, flat

foot, vericose vein and squint eyes. The vision should be 6/6 with or without glasses. They

should possess high colour vision and should not be colour blind. The medical test will also

include chest X ray and other tests as prescribed by the Department of Health and Family

Welfare, Government of West Bengal from time to time. The selected candidates should be a

good mental and physical health and free from any physical deformity likely to interfere with

the efficient performance of their duties. The certificate of medical fitness will be issued by

authorized Medical Officer.


F. OTHER INSTRUCTIONS :

(i) Canvassing of one’s candidature in any way will disqualify the candidature.

(ii) The candidates shall produce original certificates of Educational Qualifications and other testimonials at

the time of interview.

(iii) Attested copies of all certificates / testimonials have to be submitted alongwith the application form (do

not send Original Certificates with the application).

(iv) No T.A. / D.A. will be allowed to the candidates for their journey to attend test / interview. They will

appear for the selection tests at their own expenses and risk.

(v) Incomplete Applications or Applications not in prescribed form or Application Forms received after due

date will summarily be rejected. No further correspondence in this regard will be entertained.

(vi) Application Form must be filled in English Language only.

(vii) All communications to the candidates will be made at their noted PRESENT ADDRESS.

G. Number of vacancies is likely to be 4767. Reservation for SC / ST / OBC candidates of West Bengal will be as per the

prevailing rules.

H. (i) Application forms and Information Brochures will be available from 16/08/2010 from the offices of the

Superintendents of Police of the districts on payment of Rs.150(One Hundred fifty) only by Demand Draft

/ Postal Order drawn in favour of the West Bengal Police Recruitment Board for the General and OBC

Category Candidates and free of cost for the SC / ST category candidates on production of original Caste /

Tribe certificate issued by the competent authority. All candidates from States other than West Bengal

will be treated as general candidates and they will purchase such forms and brochures from the office of

the Superintendent of Police, district South 24 Parganas at Alipore, Kolkata.

(ii) Duly filled in application forms alongwith 2(two) recent stamp size photographs, one pasted on the

application form at the specified box and the other attached with the application form with form serial

number written on the back side and attested Xerox copies of certificates / testimonials should reach The

Chairman, West Bengal Police Recruitment Board, Araksha Bhavan (PCC),Block – DJ, Sector – II, Salt

Lake City, Kolkata – 700 091 by 10/09/2010, in closed envelope with superscription as “APPLICATION

FOR THE POST OF CONSTABLE IN WEST BENGAL POLICE, 2010”.
