The Value of One

Omolara, a servant of Christ Jesus. Im joking! As much as I wanted to give you all a good
Paul introduction, I had to bring myself back to the 21st century! I hope you all are doing well!
Today I wanted to write to you all about something that's close my heart, something that I
witness so much under the sun (as King Solomon would put it). Were going to talk about two ladies
(sorry men) but I promise you, it will be applicable to all! The two ladies go by the name of Hagar
and the other goes by the name of Leah.
Hagar was the slave of Abraham and Sarah (Gen.16:1). She did whatever she was told to do
and was used by Sarah to give Abraham a son due to Sarahs inability to bear children. She was
overlooked and in the eyes of many, unloved. The identity given to her was a slave who was good to
make babies and take directions.
The next Lady that were going to discuss is Leah (Gen. 29:16-17). She was the first wife of
Jacob (Gen. 29: 22-24) and gave him the most children, seven in all (Gen. 29: 20-21). Talk about a
full house! Yet she was unloved. The bible makes it clear that she wasnt as beautiful as her sister
and the only reason Jacob married her was due to her father Laban tricked him.
These women were unloved and used by others to serve their own personal, selfish desires.
It is such a hard pill to swallow knowing and walking in this world convinced that youre arent
loved, worthy, confused about identity, and constantly overlooked. Many people I encounter are
much like these ladies and find themselves on a journey to discover themselves. They search for
love, affirmation, acceptance- and the worst thing about it, is so many people are running to all the
wrong places.
But, theres good news (this cant be another one of those disappointing blogs)! You are
loved by a creator who cares about you so much! Jesus himself says in the book of Matthew that we
are more valuable than the birds of the air (Matt.10:31). Im not just writing this because its the
right Christian thing to do, Im letting you know because you are, you are v
aluable.
God met these women where they were and spoke to their inner being. He made them to
understand that peoples inability to see greatness and worth has absolutely nothing to do with the
reality and truth of the matter. After running from Sarah, God found Hagar and made her special
promises (Gen16:9). After many attempts of trying to be noticed through children, Leah finally ran
to God and found her affirmation and worth through him (Gen.29:35).
My heart felt prayer is that you find love in all the right place- only in Christ Jesus. You may
be one person, but who are you are and what youre destined for is never diminished because of
your present or your past. See yourself as God sees you and remember YOU ARE LOVED.
Your sister and Friend,
Omolara Fagbewesa
