Mosque at Ground Zero? Hell No!

By Joe Bruno

Talk about being tome deaf and out of touch with the American people.
President Obama threw dirt in the face of everyone who lost a loved on on 9/11, when he said
last Friday, August 13, at an Iftar meal at the White House for Muslims breaking the Ramadan fast,
“Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country. That includes the
right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan.”
Yet not everyone shared President Obama's attitude.
Sally Regenhard, whose firefighter son was killed at the World Trade Center, told Fox News
that the President had failed to understand the issue. “As an Obama supporter, I really feel that he's lost
sight of the germane issue, which is not about freedom of religion,” she said. “It's about a gross lack of
sensitivity to the 9/11 families and to the people who were lost.”
Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., also said the President is wrong. In a written statement King said, “It's
insensitive and uncaring for the Muslim community to build a mosque in the shadow of Ground Zero.
While the Muslim community has the right to build a mosque, they are abusing that right by needlessly
offending so many people who have suffered so much. The right and moral thing for President Obama
to have done was to urge Muslin leaders to respect the families of those who died and move their
mosque away from Ground Zero. Unfortunately the President has caved to political correctness.
Then came a bit of half-hearted back-tracking and tap-dancing by President Obama. In double
time, no less.
On Saturday, August 14, Obama took a family vacation to the Gulf Coast of Florida ( It's about
time he threw some much-needed cash at the Gulf people who have lost so much due to the BP oil
spill). There, 1000 miles away from his callous remarks of the night before, Obama said his comments
from Friday night were only directed at the constitutional right of the mosque to be there. “I was not
commenting and I will not comment on the wisdom of making the decision to put a mosque there. I
was commenting very specifically on the right people have that dates back to our founding. That's what
our country is all about.”
Well, then why in Allah's name would President Obama refuse to comment on the wisdom, or
on the appropriateness of building a Mosque near Ground Zero?
He is the President of the United States, isn't he?
He's paid the big bucks to make difficult decisions; to say and do the right things for all
Americans. Not just Muslims. He is supposed to be the backbone, the integrity of America not some
wash-woman who's afraid to offend a religion what has become the home and solace to Muslim
extremists who have tried to destroy our country. And your country too, Mr. President.
Could it be that he actually thinks the Muslims are right, not only legally but morally too, to
build a mosque near (600 feet) from Ground Zero. There can be no other rational conclusion for
President Obama's unwillingness to say anything that might offend Muslims.
Maybe President Obama's Muslim upbringing at an early age has influenced who the thinks he
can offend and who he thinks he cannot offend.
Let us be clear. No one is questioning the legality of Muslims building a mosque anywhere they
wish. This is America. This is a free country. We have the First Amendment. Of course, Muslims can
build anything they want anywhere in America.
We're talking about sensitivity here; about compassion for the people who lost loved ones on
9/11. Of all the places Muslims can build a mosque, why near Ground Zero?
There are 100 mosques in New York already. They want to make it 101. Fine. I have no
problem with that. But build it someplace else. I'll even lay the first row of bricks for them.
Building a mosque at Ground Zero is akin to building a monument at Pearl Harbor for the
Japanese kamikaze pilots who destroyed our ships and killed our American servicemen in a Sunday
morning sneak attack. Or putting a statue of Hitler at City Hall in the town of Auschwitz in Poland.
Building a mosque near Ground Zero is plain lunacy; which for the past few months has been
the modus operandi of the Obama Presidency, economically, internationally and religiously. Nothing
Obama does makes any sense and more.
Maybe it does to Progressives, or extreme left-wing loons, but not to right-minded people of
both the Democratic and Republican parties. As for the moderate Independents, who shifted the 2009
Presidential election to Obama in the first place, they are now running from him like he has mad cow
disease.
I can't wait for the November mid-term elections, so that we the people can display our extreme
displeasure with everything Obama.
Make no mistake. People have not forgotten about the tragedy of 9/11. The feeling of the
people is that you are either with us, or against us on the issue of building a mosque near Ground Zero.
President Obama clearly seems to be a member of the later group.
President Obama will pay dearly with our votes in the November mid-term elections and in two
years from now in the next Presidential election.
That is, if Hillary doesn't beat him out for the Democratic nomination, which due to Obama's
lack of intestinal fortitude, is now a distinct possibility.
