The Issue

In an act of undemocratic decision making, Dean Julia OSullivan has cut the Bachelor of
Education and Diploma in Technological Education programs from OISE without
following due process and without consulting Faculty, staff or students. The Dean
maintains that no program cuts were made, but rather a shift has occurred in how the
program will be delivered.

In reality, the shift has repackaged the undergraduate B.Ed program as a postgraduate
degree. The repackaging yields the same results as the nixed B.Ed program, but comes
with a less equitable, unholistic, financially motivated admissions process and a
significant hike in tuition, not to mention job cuts in faculty and support staff at OISE.
The shift will also eliminate the two most successful BEd/Diploma in Technological
Education Tech Ed ITE programs in the city of Toronto and GTA and, in turn,
significantly impact a number of USW support staff and CUPE sessional instructors.

Dean Julia OSullivans vision of OISE creates an admissions process that fails to service
the GTAs socio-economically diverse students, teachers and classrooms to the standards
OISE was meant to uphold. In short, Dean Julia OSullivan and her administration have
begun a series of events that could ultimately lead to OISEs collapse. Its time to stand to
take a stand before its too late.

What we want

We want to demand that program cuts and job losses, like the B.Ed and ITE Diploma
programs at OISE, no longer happen. Were asking you to speak out and raise questions.
Why wasnt the faculty consulted in the B.Ed cuts? Why is the Dean making decisions
that affect me, my school and the education at OISE without an open conversation?

Were asking you to be aware of the undemocratic processes happening behind closed
doors, and help us stop Julia OSullivan from being re-elected as Dean of OISE.

By joining the Save OISE Awareness Campaign and understanding the role USW Local
1998 can play in securing jobs and programs at your university, you can prevent further
cuts to essential programs at OISE.

How you can help

Join the Save OISE Awareness Campaign. By signing the petition below we will be
sending a clear and loud message to Dean OSullivan that her decisions do not reflect the
wants and values of the people she was elected to represent. Our goal with this petition is
to collect 1000 online pledges. With that we can help stop Dean OSullivan from getting re-
elected, give voice to those most affected and take the first steps in ensuring OISE
remains a pioneer in the field of education.

The recent decision to gut OISE's Bed Program was undemocratic and against the wishes of many staff,
faculty and students. Dean O'Sullivan's choice to use a political loophole to avoid a vote on the issue has
tarnished the reputation of the University and put dozens of support staff and faculty out of work. By signing
this petition you agree that Dean O'Sullivan should be removed from her role and replaced immediately.
