236 Pints Collected at Hudson Police Blood Drive in Memory of Officer Stys
courtesy of Jamie Iskra
The Hudson Police Department sponsored its 58th Semi-Annual
American Red Cross Blood Drive on Tuesday, Sept. 19. Two
hundred and twenty-eight donors arrived to give blood and the Red
Cross collected 236 pints of life-saving blood. This number greatly
surpassed the goal of 219 pints.
This blood drive was the departments first memorial blood

of Massachusetts-Lowell Police Department. Officer Stys fought a
courageous battle with cancer and passed away earlier this year.
Officer Stys was a proud supporter of donating blood, and the HPD
missed his presence at its last drive so much that they decided to
dedicate this drive to his memory.
For years, there have been carnations and T-shirts given to donors
as a token of appreciation. This year, the Hudson Police added a
special touch for Officer Stys. Lively carnations dyed in hues of blue Sean Gow gets ready to donate. David Enos does his part to help save a life.

red, this flower is blue. Officer Stys, this pint is for you. Even the
T-shirts had a special touch and were inscribed with Hudson Police
Blood Drive in Memory of Officer Stys.
It was a wonderful time to share in something with the
communitys law enforcement family and Officer Stys family and
friends.
The donors enjoyed a variety of food donated by area stores and
restaurants. On behalf of the Hudson Police Department and the
American Red Cross, the Hudson Police thank all those businesses
for donating their services.

While We All Know not to Park in Handicap Spots,

have You ever Thought about Mobility?
by Len Lathrop
It seems the interest started with the question

mobility. There are 3.3 million wheelchair users
in the United States according to KD Smart Chair,

issued in 1869; and it wasnt until 1933 when
the lightweight, collapsible steel wheelchair was
made by Herbert Everest and Harry Jennings.
