50min Strategies for Learning and Teaching

1. Expand on last question and student answer, explaining the purpose of the
Eucharist and how it helps us to live more like Christ

During his life on earth Jesus showed in many ways he had the power to
love and do good. Jesus has the power to help people love and to do good
more often. With the help of this power, his followers are capable of loving
and doing good in ways they could not by their own efforts. Sharing Jesus Special Meal- Year 3

To draw on Jesus power, we have to keep a close relationship with Him.

The Eucharist is one of the ways we can remain close to Jesus. Those who
receive the Eucharist during Holy Communion draw closer to Jesus in a way
unlike any other. As a person takes the Eucharist, it helps them to:
1. Love others when it is difficult
2. To do what is right more often Last Supper Godly Play kit:
Godly Play script.
2. Briefly explain the purpose of the Last Supper Jesus and Disciple figures
Table, small jug and bread props
Jesus showed his follower that he had the power of God by performing cloth (colour appropriate to timeline
miracles. One of his greatest miracles being when he changed the bread in Church)
and wine into His Body and Blood. This miracle is repeated every time his
followers gather to celebrate the Eucharist to the Mass

3. Tell the story of the Last Supper using a Godly Play kit. Teacher to read
Godly Play script provided and place down and use the appropriate items
when necessary.

4. Ask students at which point in Mass does Jesus repeat this miracle.
Expand on student answer.
Jesus repeats this miracle today in Australia every time a priest repeat the
actions and words Jesus performed at the Last Supper- particularly when
he is preparing the Eucharist for those at Mass. Jesus does this because he
wants all believers to lover others and do good more often.

5. Based on their multiple intelligence (or an activity which theyd prefer to do)
students respond to what they have learnt about the Last Supper and the
Eucharist.

Each of the multiple intelligence activities will be distributed around Multiple Intelligence activities/resources
the classroom in a station-like manner and students are responsible
for finding their correct station and completing one of the two-three
activities best suited to their learning style. Teacher is to go through
each of the activities with students prior to them beginning.
An explanation of each activity will be distributed per station (for
assignment purposes activities are presented in a grid below)
Teacher to observe students as they complete their activities to
ensure on-task behaviour and progress

Hope- if their activity lends to it, some students are given the opportunity
to reflect how they can follow and become a disciple of Jesus by loving
others when it is difficult and doing what is right more often
Justice- if their activity lends to it, some students are given the opportunity
to reflect upon how they can relate and becoming more loving like Christ
in their lives by loving others when it is difficult and doing what is right
more often
Ethical understanding- activities enable students to think about how even
though they havent made their first Holy Communion yet, they are able to
live like Christ through ethical action- loving others when it is difficult and
doing what is right more often
Personal and Social- all the MI activities enable students to develop their
collaborative working skills, or independent working skills and their ability
to make decisions and show initiative

5min Conclusion
1. Bring class back to the mat. Have students share examples of the activity
they completed and the work they produced.
2. Reinforce and highlight with the students the special miracle Jesus
performed at this meal: the changing of the bread and wine into this Body
and Blood and that as people today receive Jesus in Holy Communion,
Jesus draws them closer and helps them to:
love others when it is difficult to do so
do what is right more often.
