Priority CARRIER ASSEMBLY ON THE POWERTRAIN GEAR PUMP ON
CERTAIN D9T AND D10T TRACK-TYPE TRACTORS

NOTE: This Program must be administered as soon as possible. When

reporting the repair, use "PI31542" as the Part Number and
"7751" as the Group Number, "56" as the Warranty Claim
Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description code.
Exception: If the repair is done after failure, use
"PI31542" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number,
"96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the
SIMS Description Code.
NOTE: The information supplied in this service letter may not be
valid after the termination date of this program. Do not
perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the
termination date without first contacting your Caterpillar
product analyst.

PROBLEM
The powertrain gear pump has a carrier assembly which needs to be
inspected on certain D9T and D10T Track-Type Tractors that have
under 500 hours on the Service Meter Reading (SMR). The existing
powertrain gear pump can fail due to the mis-location of bearing
drain holes on the carrier assembly.

hours. An additional 1 hr is allowed to check the carrier
assembly. If the carrier assembly is found to be bad, an
additional 8 hrs will be allowed for replacing the pump. If the
pump has already failed and system clean up is necessary, an
additional 40 hrs will be allowed for system clean out per
REHS4331.

MODELS INVOLVED - D9T AND D10T TRACK-TYPE TRACTORS
Dear Caterpillar Product Owner:
The powertrain gear pump has a carrier assembly which needs to be

inspected on certain D9T and D10T Track-Type Tractors that have
under 500 hours on the Service Meter Reading (SMR). The existing
powertrain gear pump can fail due to the mis-location of bearing
drain holes on the carrier assembly. You will not be charged for the
service performed.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this

service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete
this service.
Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 04Aug2008 when
scheduling this service.
We regret the inconvenience this may cause you, but urge you to have
this service performed as soon as possible to prevent unscheduled
downtime.

Rework Procedure
1. Inspect the service meter. If the machine has over 500 hours on
the service meter, no further action is required. If the machine has
less than 500 hours on the service meter, proceed to Step 2.
2. Open the rear-most hinged bottom guard.
3. Locate the powertrain gear pump (272-6588 for D9T, 201-8390 for
D10T). Reference manual RENR7533 for D9T and RENR7547 for D10T.
4. Locate the 209-2667 Carrier Assembly, between the transmission

charge section and the torque converter charge section.
5. Inspect the 209-2667 Carrier Assembly drain holes to ensure

proper location. Note that the correct location of the holes is in
the center of the carrier assembly body.

6. If the carrier assembly has the drain holes in the incorrect

location, replace the pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly
Manual, RENR7471 (for the D9T) and RENR8166 (for the D10T), for the
removal and installation procedures. Document the machine serial
number, component serial number, and machine service hours on the
warranty claim.
If a failure of the powertrain oil pump has already occurred, refer

to REHS4331 for powertrain system clean out and recalibration
procedure.
