Customers Expectation:

o To make decisions in real time, at moments of risk and opportunity

o Business experience to be as satisfying as personal experience
o Instant, correct answers to any question anywhere anytime

With SAP HANA: Using ground-breaking in-memory hardware and software, its possible to manage data
at massive scale, analyze it at amazing speed, and give the business not only access to real time
transactional information and analysis but also more flexibility. Flexibility to analyze new types of data in
different ways, without creating custom data warehouses and data marts. Even the flexibility to build new
applications is possible.

SAP In-Memory Appliance (SAP HANA)

In Memory Software + Hardware
Data modelling and Data Management
Real Time data replication
SAP Data services for ETL capabilities from SAP Business suite, SAP NetWeaver Business
Warehouse and 3rd Party systems
o Capabilities Enabled
Analyze information in real-time at unprecedented speeds on large volumes of non-
aggregated data
Create flexible analytic models based on real-time and historic business data
Foundation for new-category of applications
Minimize data duplication

Conceptually, a database table is a two-dimensional data structure with cells organized in rows and
columns. Computer memory however is organized as a linear structure. To store a table in linear memory,
two options exist, a row-oriented storage stores a table as a sequence of records, each of which contain the
fields of one row. On the other hand, in a column store the entries of a column are stored in contiguous
memory locations.
o Row Based Store:
Mainly distinct values in the source database which leads to low compression rate
Use when All the columns are relevant, No aggregation or search required
Use when table has minor number of records
o Column Based Store:
Used when Large number of rows, Column based operations will be processed
Used when aggregation or search is required
Very good suitability for analytical applications

SAP HANA Deployment Options:

o On Premise
Appliance: Go live quickly with a pre-configured appliance
a. Preconfigured hardware
b. Preinstalled software
c. Solution validation by SAP and partner
Tailored Data Center Integration: Choose your hardware and infrastructure
a. Existing hardware and infrastructure
b. Reduced cost and risk
c. Increased flexibility and control
Virtualized - Hosts multiple, isolated database instances on one or more servers so that
each database instance appears as if it is running on a separate machine
o Cloud / On Demand
SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud - Private cloud service managed by SAP
a. Reliable hosting environment
b. Managed services approach
c. Increased flexibility and low TCO
Public Cloud, Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) - Public cloud infrastructure as a service
(IaaS) that offers you the ability to run your own licensed SAP HANA software on
Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, or IBM Bluemix
a. Fast time to value
b. No hardware investment
c. Flexible scalability
Public Cloud, Pay-as-you-go (SAP HANA One) - Deploy SAP HANA One in third-party
clouds: Amazon Web Services (AWS), or Alibaba.
a. Hourly pay-as-you-go rate
b. Single database instance
c. Run custom applications only

Data Mart: A data mart is an industry term for a repository of data gathered from operational data
originating in transactional systems to meet the specific needs of a particular group of users in terms of
analysis, content, presentation, and ease-of-use.

Application on HANA Scenarios

o SAP HANA Side Car - SAP HANA is used as a secondary database where data is replicated in real-
time. Information and results could be consumed on an SAP Business Objects platform or directly
SAP HANA-Based Accelerators: In this scenario, certain computing operations of
designated business processes or reports is performed in HANA. The typical approach for
accelerators involves replicating data for data-intensive operations that are often
bottlenecks for the given operation in an SAP HANA table. A type of switch is then set
in the SAP Business Suite application to indicate that whenever these specified tables are
read, the read operation will take place in SAP HANA using a secondary database
SAP HANA as Data Mart - With SAP HANA, data marts offer real-time analytics and
reporting on data replicated from a transactional systems database.
a. Operational data marts - The raw tables themselves are copied (structure and
data) from the transactional systems database into SAP HANA. As new data is
added into the relevant tables in the transactional systems database, copies of
those records are automatically transferred immediately into SAP HANA using
replication technology. These replicated tables become the basis for specialized
views that are created for analytics purposes.
b. Agile data marts Data marts are designed based on analytic models. Data is not
in its original shape, but has been transformed before loading into HANA which
forms the basis for analytics. Direct Extraction Connection and Data services are
used to load data into HANA
SAP HANA as Primary Persistence / Business suite on HANA HANA becomes the
primary data base for ERP systems. SAP Business Suite applications (ERP, CRM, and
SCM, and so on), SAP Business Warehouse (BW), and other SAP enterprise solutions are
built on SAPs pervasive platform, SAP NetWeaver. SAP NetWeaver has two distinct
aspects, ABAP and Java. Many applications built on SAP NetWeavers ABAP and/or Java
application servers are able to run on SAP HANA, where SAP HANA serves as the sole
database in the architecture.
