Our main notion about an Ideal President is, he or she may acquire these traits the
knowledge to govern, respect the people, being patient, enthusiastic with the job
and also being humble at the same time, these are all correct but beyond that there
are other requirements that makes one a good leader. The focal point on how to
classify a president as an ideal one is by his or her effectiveness. It is reflected on the
presidents actions, on how he carries orders and implements them to the public, it is
not all about making laws but on how it is to be implemented and utilized to the
general. Another trait is how the president seeks the interest of individuals, such as
businesses, trade unions, and the requests of the masses. The elected must be able to
collect peoples public will and interest, connect it to the government, but also stay
neutral to the views and opinions of both the state and its constituents.

My own personal ranking of the past Filipino Presidents would be in the order of worst to
the greatest. In my opinion the worst Presidents of the Republic of the Philippines would
be the three who died during their terms, no one would wish and want to see this happen
but it is waste of opportunity for they were not able to fulfill out their ideals for country,
they have so much promise that couldve lead the country to greater heights, these were
former presidents Ramon Magsaysay, Manuel Quezon and Manuel Roxas.

Next would be those who used their fame to become the President, I am not against this,
for fame is really needed to be a Presidential candidate but the way they exploited their
fame is what I see wrong. For me there are those who are more credible, experienced and
effective to take the place of presidency rather than Cory Aquino and Erap Estrada, but it
is already written in our history. How can a housewife help the nation, likewise with a
dropout from college?

Basing on their performances as of late both Gloria Arroyo and incumbent Noynoy
Aquino, they did not show and have not done what they promised to the constituents.
Although they do well on our growth as a nation, they seem passive with the other
aspects of politics and government. Another passive former president would be Carlos P.
Garcia, although he had a good background politically the experience did not garner a lot
of projects, he faired well but implemented little programs for the country.

Jose Laurel a great president basing on his accolades but deemed not great when it comes
to his service of the state, when he fled and ran into exile at the Japanese occupation it
resulted to economic troubles and food shortage. Diosdado Macapagal during his short
tenure as Philippine president became very effective. During this stint he established a
good economic system for our country, Land reforms and anti corruption drive. But
during his time, the Constitutional Convention was taking place, this caused legitimacy
problems for the Convention was ratified and modified.

Fidel V. Ramos is one of the Presidents that I look up to, not only did he beat large names
during the elections but he also did well during his occupancy. He brought with him his
background from the military, became stiff and steady with his implementations of
programs. There were also fallbacks during his time the power crisis, and Asian Financial
Crisis.

Emilio Aguinaldo must have had the hardest time being the President, not only did he
become the first one but also it was the time of our countrys uncertainty for freedom and
not considered by many as a true president. Nevertheless he fought for our freedom but
fell short. Sergio Osmena resumed the job of Manuel Roxas when he died, Osmena
handled the turnover well, and he continued the Commonwealth Republic with the help
of Douglas McArthur that they liberated the country. In his time there were pacts and
programs established mostly with foreign ties, like the Bell Trade Act, International
banking, and the Foreign Relations Office.

My Ideal President would be President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., not because we both live
in the same province of Batac, Ilocos Norte, not because my family are politicians there
and have great ties with the Marcoses, and go way back but with all bias aside we cannot
overlook what he did for our country. We wouldnt be seeing infrastructures in the likes
of those neighboring our country; here in our own if it wasnt for him. He paved way in
the progress of our country economically and as a nation. Although the Martial Law
wreaked havoc to some or most of our countrymen, the intention was there and at their
time they can see what he wanted to produce or create. Credit must be given to where its
due. During Marcos regime several Laws were made, and the implementation made
Filipinos disciplined. Infrastructures such as roads, buildings, and theatres were built. He
even monopolized the utilities such as electricity (Meralco), telecommunications for the
people to receive lesser charges. The health care before was more efficient than to date.
He sacrificed his image of a good one to bad for the purpose of the common good.
Infamous to him are the positive aspects of his president hood, a lot can be said and
thrown at him, wise or otherwise, but the facts and achievements do not lie.
