Present Situation,
disturbance passng
Northern Europe, a general
but slow increase of pressure is taking place from
an anticyclonic system occupying Southwestern'
Europe and the middle belt of the Atlantic, Winds
from between South-West and North- West are reported
over the British Isles and the neighbouring parts
of the Continent, but are still squally and fresh to
strong in force in many localities, the lightest
breezes being over the northern districts, A
considerable improvement in the weather is in pro
gress, being now fair to fine over a,n extensive area.
At the Azores pressure has commenced to
give way, accompanied by light Southerly breezes and
dull weather. In Iceland Northerly breezes prevail,
fresh to a gale in the west, with dull weather and
local rain . Over the Mediterranean region summer
\ conditions still obtain, calms and light variable
breezes and fine warm weather ,

The Present Situation

The central space of the Atlantic anticyclonej

has now been transferred to prance, and a ridge of j
relatively high pressure extends northwards across '\
Britain to the Faer5e. planking this ridge depressions!
are indicated over Northern Europe and the Atlantic, jj
There has boon an appreciable decrease of pressure at j
the Azores, but the fail of the barometer which set in 'I
at our western stations 'during the past night has aireacj.f7
ceased, the mercury rising over the greater part of our ill
area, rather briskly over Denmark, The pressure ridge 'j
marks" the separation between North-Westerly winds on thq.:
N'orth Sea side, and South-Westerly or Southerly on the ;;:
Atlantic side, strong to high on the eastern side of thejjj
North Sea, but of little force elsewhere, pine to
cloudy, dry weather prevails generally, a few west coast
stations reporting showers,

The General Outlook,

The distribution of pressure described above
\ ^ V , is usually of an unsettled, windy and rainy type, but the
arrest of the Atlantic depression on nearing our western;
coasts renders the future changes very doubtful, as it is
now uncertain whether the check is only temporary, or an
indication that the system is bearing awey from our \t

PRESENT SITUATION
An anticyclone covers England and the neigh
bouring portion of the continent <> In these
regions the wind is light and variable in direction
and the weather is fine to misty or f oggy In the
west and north there is a Southerly current of wind,
which is blowing strongly at Malin Headc Over
Northern Prance and in the Channel the wind has

/
become South- East or Bast, The weather is cloudy
in Ireland, dull or rainy in Scotland where the
:v
5fc
weather is much warmer;
THE FURTHER CUTLCCK-
The barometer is falling decidedly in the
south-west of Ireland and England, and is rising
over southern Scandinavia, The anticyclone is
therefore drifting away towards the north- east <
The weather is likely to continue fine for the
present in the south-east of England, and will
probably be fair to-day everywhere except in
Scotland, but conditions are likely to become
unsettled again later as the low pressure in the
west spreads over the country^

THE PRESENT SITUATION.

A shallow depression lies off our south-west . \

coastSc Over southern Scandinavia, Denmark- and the
North Sea region pressure has become fairly uniform.
Some rain is falling in the south-west of England
and in Wales and aiso at Birr Castle o The sky is
cloudy on our Western Coasts, but over the eastern
half of Britain and in Prance and the Netherlands
the weather is fine. The wind is light and blows
vo^' , from between South and East over the whole country .
/ ^* Coastal fog is indicated from Tynemouth to the
Orkneys .
^ / ,---,>-.,,,.-
L?' (3^

/ ^ "^ J 1 i 1HE FURTHER OUTLOOK. |j

\ ' t
^^
'XJ V Although the depression in the south-west is
likely to cause showery weather over the west of
England to-day and may possibly bring about cloudier
conditions in the east later on, the rise of the
barometer in the west of Ireland indicates that
high pressure is about to spread in from the
Atlantic, which will eventually bring fine and
cool weather as the depression passes away.

The Present Situation

A depression with readings down to 1000 mb
is situated in the neighbourhood of the Faroe,
An anticyclone lies off the Mouth of the Channel.
Over the eastern half of the North Sea the gradient-
is very slight, but on our north-west coasts it
has become steep and the SW ffind in these regions
is fresh or strong. Rainy conditions have set in
along the whole of this coast from Valencia round
to fficko Over England, Prance and Holland the
weather is fine, with local mist or fog, the wind
being light from the N or NW generally.

The General Outlook

The barometer is falling briskly in
Scotland and north-east Ireland, but on our north
west coasts the fall is not so rapid as it was
early in the morning, Unsettled weather is likely
to spread further in to the extreme north and west
of England, and rainy conditions will continue in
Scotland and Ireland, but over the south-east of
England fine weather is likely to continue to-day.

The^Present^Si^tuation .
Pressure was lowest and very uniform over a
large area comprising nearly the whole of Scandinavia
and thence to Spitzbergen, relatively low and uniform
over England, and highest' in an anticyclone extending
east--north-eastwards from the Azores. The changes in
progress were everywhere slight, Cver the British
Isles and their immediate vicinity the barometer was
rising, while over the northern part of Scandinavia it
was falling. With the uniform pressure over England
the sky was mostly very cloudy or entirely overcast,
while slight rain was falling at Portland Bill and in :
London.
During the day a further decrease of pressure!"?
occurred in the far north and north- east, and a slight
but rather irregular increase in the United Kingdom,
resulting in a little rain in various countries.
