A Message from Meg
August 13, 2010 My number one goal as governor is to put Californians back to work. I saw firsthand this week how important it is to help our agriculture industry flourish. While visiting Kings County, I had a chance to meet farmer Larry Bettencourt and Aubrey, his daughter. Like many hardworking Californians, Larry and Aubrey love their state and want to be certain they can keep their business growing and provide decent paying jobs for their employees. Their story is compelling and I’d like to share it with you. Click here to watch. I appreciated Larry and Aubrey sharing their concerns with me, and this visit was a chance for me to share what I want to do to bring jobs and water to the Central Valley. My jobs plan is one of the key reasons the Western Growers Association endorsed my campaign this week. They represent 3,000 fruit and vegetable growers. I'm honored to have their support because I know that working together we can strengthen California's $36 billion agriculture industry. California cannot have a sustained economic recovery without a strong ag business and a thriving Central Valley. With only 81 days until the General Election, I’m proud to have the support of the Western Growers Association. And I'm counting on your help and support to get our message out and bring more Californians on board our team. We'll soon have seven field offices available across the state where Californians can come and volunteer their time and recruit others to help us build A New California. I ask and encourage you to find an hour of your time to come in and volunteer at a field office near you: EAST L.A. OFFICE 212 S. She has the enthusiasm and I believe she’s the person for the job." -- Eddie Mendes, Lemoore farmer "I really believe that Meg has the ability because she was in private business. If she can run our state like I run my business or like she ran her business, we'll be better off." -- Rodney Evangelho, owner of Evangelho Seed & Farm Store in Lemoore "I think Meg genuinely understands what we need in order for this area to get jobs: water. She understands that a simple switch to turn on these pumps creates jobs, creates a stronger economy." -- Dennis Fuller, high school agriculture teacher in Lemoore

Meg will "step up and take charge" to fix California, valley backers say
From Meg News Channel
Hard economic times have taken a toll on the Central Valley’s farmers and ranchers. Unemployment has risen as high as 40 percent in some communities. California’s burdensome taxes and regulations have stifled growth and innovation. And the lack of water – the lifeblood of the state’s agriculture industry – is evident in every direction. Meg Whitman traveled to Kings County Tuesday because she wants to offer Californians the answers they’ve been looking for. She highlighted her plan to put Californians back to work and jumpstart the economy – and she’s not forgetting about the state’s farmers and ranchers. Since the beginning of her campaign, Meg’s been to the Central Valley nearly 30 times – she’s met with farmers, toured their land, and seen first-hand how they’re suffering. Meg has visited all of California’s major growing regions in the past year, from the Coachella Valley to Shasta County, from the Central Coast to the Central Valley...more To receive your copy in the mail, click here.
