Janura, Peter ~REC Sent: Wed Mar 05 10:32:52 2008 Subject: Prime Minister's Visit to Bucharest Although I understand that there are plans that may dramatically curtail Prime Minister Harper's stay in Bucharest I would like you to know that we are on standby to organize a program for Wednesday afternoon (april 2) should he arrive earlier in the day. We fSxplored a number of options, but the one that makes the most gense and would give us the Greatest flexibility to organize or undo at the last minute is @ roundtable session st the Official Residence with key Canadian investors/business people active in Romania and Bulgaria. Companies would include SNC-Lavalin, AECL, Canam, Celestica, Gabriel Resources, Dundee (Bulgaria) and s few others. The companies would represent a range of sectors and experiences, good and bad, in Romania and Bulgaria. We had explored other ideas including a bilateral with the Romanian Prime Minister but, frankly, most of the senior players Will be fully involved in the NATO Summit, those not involved with it will be heading out of town and the security clampdown with some 60 delegations will be such that it would be very difficult for anyone, including the PM, to move around this town. The Embassy is also on standby for organizing a “meet and greet" with our staff should there be time for it. We understand the FM may be leaving right after the last session on April 4.
