MINERAL RESOURCES POTENTIAL IN THE

PHILIPPINES
Of the Philippines total land area of 30 million ha, 9 million ha
have high mineral potential
Only 2.5% or 748,866 ha - total land area are covered by
mining tenements (May 2017)
These areas are still subject to the mandatory relinquishment
by contractors
2.2 Million sq km- Philippines Exclusive Economic Zone
(EEZ) with total shoreline of 35,286 km - 3rd longest
shoreline in the world, with huge mineral potential

WITH DUE CONSIDERATION FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
1. Ease or reduce the cost of doing business in the country
ECC for Environmentally Critical Projects 40 days (EMB Central
Office)
ECC for Projects in Environmentally Critical Areas 20 days (EMB
Reg. Offices)
EO 30, June 28, 2017- ECC for a power projects to be signed by the
DENR Secretary on the 27th day from date of application
Online processing of ECC
Streamlining of mining application procedures and their processing
Spearhead inter-agency coordination of government agencies dealing
with mining projects

ENHANCING THE CONTRIBUTION OF RESPONSIBLE MINERAL
RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT TO ECONOMIC GROWTH
WITH DUE CONSIDERATION FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
2. Encouragement of mineral processing in the country to maximize
benefits from the mining industry
Establish a robust mine-to-metal value chain - to ensure
availability and security of materials and commodities and
minimize risks
Formulate policies on minerals and metals-led industrialization
initiatives
3. Revisit regulatory and compliance policies in the mining industry
4. Conduct inventory and further exploration to determine mineral
resources and their potentials, e.g., possible Mineral Exploration in

5. Strict and continuous monitoring of mining operations so they comply
with mining and environmental laws and other relevant laws
6. Conduct of immediate investigation and imposition of penalties and
sanctions on violators
7. Immediate implementation of rehabilitation/remediation of areas due
to the adverse effects/damages of mining operations and the prompt
assessment and payment of compensation to affected individuals

1. Innovative policies to make the mining
industry more competitive in the global arena
2. Review existing Mineral Product Sharing
Agreements compliance to relevant laws
3. Strengthen monitoring and evaluation of all
ongoing mining operations by involving third
party experts
4. Require companies to undertake progressive
rehabilitation and strengthen their Corporate
Social Responsibility (CSR)
