Problem
Managing resources
Having central data of all resources
Having real time inventory status
Resource Management Systems / Enterprise
Resource Planning (ERP) system
To convey inventory data to all remote locations
Actual problem: a fast, convenient and reliable
data collection and identification system
Solution
Barcodes
Radio Frequency ID (RFID)
Biometric Systems (Finger Print/Retina Scans)
Barcodes
Different coding schemes
UPC (Universal Product Code 12digit) being
the most common, others include Codabar,
Code39, CPC Binary, EAN,PLANET,MSI,Telepen
There are even 2D barcodes
Barcode Readers
Laser scanners
Camera readers
CCD readers
Pen type readers
RFID
Uses Radio Frequency
instead of light to read
an ID tag
Active Tags
Passive Tags
Frequencies used:
LF : 125kHz
HF : 13.56 MHz
UHF : 860 960MHz
RFID Readers
All RFID readers constitute of a
Radio that broadcasts, in
response to which the tags
respond back with their
identification data
Industrial ID Applications
Manufacturing
Warehousing and Distribution
Transport and logistics
Healthcare / Patient ID
Field Service
Retail

Instrument Calibration
Calibration: Comparing the measurement of
a device or an instrument (Device Under Test
DUT) to another that is correct and known.
This tells us if the instrument is working fine
or not and if it needs to be corrected
When devices go Out of Tolerance (OOT) they
need to be tested and recalibrated
Calibration Standards
Different instrument manufacturers have
different calibration standards
They depend on the application the
instruments are designed for
A list of calibration standards can be found on
