Conserving the Last Eden

Here we looked at the methods that we believe necessary to ensure conservation of the
Galapagos islands. The video took place at the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science center,
where a guest speaker talked about the effects of pollution and environmental encroachment that
the Galapagos faces. These hardships are especially detrimental because the ecosystem is so
small and delicate. The intricate food webs and animal relationships can be adversely affected if
the region is not closely monitored. Human activity has put a huge damper on the ability for the
ecosystem to not only thrive, but survive. Many scientists study avidly to help monitor the
wildlife and fauna that live throughout the islands.

Most of the presentation coverage was about the wildlife of the Galapagos, which made
for a bit of redundancy due to the next article in the assignment list being solely about wildlife
within the Galapagos. Though this presentation the professor labeled the species a bit more
thoroughly, and gave all of the present species on the islands. I found it kind of hard to follow
the whole video due to his dense accent and the overwhelming glare on the screen.
