Multiple Intelligences Portfolio Entry

Before I took the multiple intelligences quiz, I had no idea that it was different from

learning styles. I thought everything was the same, but it is not. I learned that multiple

intelligences represents different intellectual abilities, while learning styles are the ways an

individual approaches a range of task. People have many different intelligences and is a fun way

to learn about how some of our interest can influence how we take in information. For example,

as student who is a musical/rhythmic intelligence can remember their multiplication facts by a

simple song. In this system no student can be left behind, just learn the information a different

way. I learned my most prevalent intelligences consist of musical/rhythmic, interpersonal,

intrapersonal, auditory and verbal. Being a musical/rhythmic intelligence means you respond to

music, are good at picking up sounds, remembering melodies, and keeping time. Interpersonal

consist of someone who likes to have lots of friends, understand people, and is a good leader. An

intrapersonal intelligence is someone who prefers to keep to themselves. Intrapersonal

intelligence likes to work alone, is good at understand themselves, follows instincts, and pursues

interest.

Auditory and verbal are learning styles, both are how I learn and take on a range of tasks.

Auditory means a person can hear something important that is said, and easily remember it.
Verbal means in order to remember or understand information, the person has to repeat that piece

information. My least prevalent intelligences are visual, kinesthetic, naturalist,

logic/mathematical, and existential/ spiritualist. I can not learn well by just seeing things, being

just hands on, just with nature, doing experiments, or thinking spiritually. Even if these are my

least prevalent intelligences does not mean I can not learn from them as well. For example, doing

an experiment in the logic/mathematical intelligence. In this intelligence experiments are usually

done along with math. If I hear some important information and repeat it while reinforcing it

with the experiment, I can remember that information I learned. In fact, 90 percent of students

learn the best by doing what they say while doing something that reinforces what they say.

Every student learns in various ways, Howard Gardner proved that when he cam up with

the multiple intelligences.
