“I am not revolutionizing anything, nor am I destroying anything. I am just going my way, quietly, without trumpeting my ideas out loud, which is, in itself, revolutionary
. Claude Debussy 1910. For the centenary of the composer’s death, we wanted to build a versatile programme for a wider audience to enjoy the composer’s rich and singular work, and discover the man behind the music. Enlightened by his own writings, whether reviews or letters from his bountiful correspondence, this concert is a tribute to Debussy’s unique poetry and refined universe. It aims at giving a broader spectrum to the richness of his art, nourished by his deep interest in literature and visual arts, as well as exploring the process of composition and sources of his inspiration.

 | maeva@clbmanagement.co.ukAchille Claude Debussy was born in Saint-Germain-en-Laye and died 56 years later in Paris, after living a life dedicated to music. His encounters with poets and fellow musicians, his travels to Russia, Italy and later on to England, and his vivid curiosity for traditional music, nature and artefacts provided a great canvas on which to elaborate the most revealing music of the 20
th
century. Debussy’s work as a critic reveals a complex and rich personality while unfolding an in-depth analysis of Paris’ musical life from 1901 to 1916. This project underlines all aspects of his compositions and the context behind such work. His dedication to work on associating text and music will be presented via a set of the most significant melodies, alongside works for piano, which cover a lifelong search into new sounds and atmospheres.
