➢ Road Traffic Crashes a growing Public Health Epidemic
➢ Socio Economic loss:
➢ 3% of global GDP (iRAP) (upto 5% in case of low and
middle income countries) (Nearly Rs.22,200 Cr annually
in Tamil Nadu – INR 61 Cr/ day)
➢ Losses: cost to the victims and families (medical cost,
loss of work, productivity, income besides physiological
and psychological suffering), cost to government, cost in
terms of damage to the property
➢ Statistical value of human life: (from iRAP report)
➢ Value of fatality : ~70 x GDP/capita
➢ Value of serious injury : ~17 x GDP/capita
➢ (25% of value of statistical life)
